A trailer for Cruel Summer season 2 reveals a new murder mystery spanning three timelines, with a love triangle between two best friends seemingly at its center. Following the success of Cruel Summer season 1, Freeform opted to turn the show into a mystery anthology series. The new season will star Sadie Stanley as Megan and Lexi Underwood as Isabella, the protagonists at the center of a new murder mystery.
Now, Freeform has released a trailer for Cruel Summer season 2, teasing the multiple timelines involved and the murder mystery at the center of its story.
The trailer hints at Megan and Isabella being at the center of a murder mystery, keeping a secret from the police. It seems as if a body pulled from a river is connected to the duo, as well as a past love triangle involving Megan’s friend Luke, played by Griffin Gluck. The trailer also revealed a premiere date of June 5 on both Freeform and Hulu.
What To Expect From Cruel Summer Season 2
Cruel Summer season 2 confirmed its summer 2023 premiere in January along with information about its mysterious storyline. The three timelines featured in the show will be around Y2K, putting them in the late ’90s to early ’00s. While it’s unclear who the murder victim in Cruel Summer season 2 is, Megan and Isabella both played a role in whatever transpired.
A major part of Cruel Summer season 1’s popularity was the many twists and turns throughout its story as it jumped between 1993, 1994, and 1995. Cruel Summer season 2 is likely to continue this trend, with viewers getting new information from different timelines that recontextualizes the events throughout the show. This will add to the mystery as law enforcement and audiences alike try to piece together the murder Megan and Isabella are involved in.
The trailer seems to purposefully obscure who the person that died is, with Luke’s absence from future scenes seemingly pointing to his demise. However, given the many mysterious twists Cruel Summer season 1 had, there may be a different victim involved the trailer didn’t touch on. Regardless of what’s been revealed in Cruel Summer season 2’s trailer, the truth won’t come out until the series premieres in June.
