Best country for retired British expats has longer life expectancy and ‘stunning views’ | Travel News | Travel

‌Retiring overseas might seem like an attractive option for many Britons. Whether they’re looking for a better lifestyle, longer life expectancy or healthcare facilities, there are a few countries where Britons might have an easier retirement than in the UK.

If settling as an expat seems a little too extreme, Britons could opt for an extended period of travel instead.

James Cole, founder and managing director of Panache Cruises, said: “Many retirees choose to travel once they have finished working, to explore areas of the world they have never seen before.”

The expert travel team at Panache Cruises looked for the best countries for retired expats from the UK.

They looked into life expectancy, salary and access to healthcare to find the best options for Britons.

Best countries for retired expats

  1. Italy
  2. Canada
  3. New Zealand
  4. Monaco
  5. Greece‌

Italy took the top spot on the list with the cost of living, particularly in the south of the country, very favourable to British expats.

James said: “In a country where the average life expectancy is four years older than in the UK, British expats in Italy can be assured to experience a fuller and longer retirement.

“Italy offers its residents pleasure which can be experienced at a leisurely rate, with stunning views, beaches, food and wine all on offer.”

British expats will also be able to enjoy senior discounts on rail and bus travel in Italy while the country’s Mediterranean diet helps its residents to stay fit.

Canada was the winning destination outside of Europe and was celebrated as one of the world’s safest countries. It’s also a top spot for wildlife watching.

New Zealand grabbed third place on the list and could be the perfect destination for expats looking for a laidback lifestyle.

Monaco just missed out on the top three rankings but with top healthcare and a stunning coastline, it could be the top choice for some Britons.

Greece is a fantastic option for sunseeking Britons as the pretty country enjoys an average of 250 sunny days per year.
