Big Brother Celebrity All-Stars Edition Might Air Due To Writers’ Strike

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike might be a good thing for fans of Big Brother, as CBS is considering adding a Celebrity All-Stars season to its lineup. Celebrity Big Brother is a spin-off of the classic reality show that premiered in 2018. With host Julie Chen Moonves, the show casts celebrities in a shortened version of the game. Winners of the three Celebrity Big Brother seasons include Marissa Jaret Winokur, Tamar Braxton, and Miesha Tate.

According to CinemaBlend, due to the WGA strike, CBS is considering airing a Celebrity All-Stars version of Big Brother. This installment would air after Big Brother season 25, presumably in the fall or winter. It would take the place of scripted television that will be delayed because of the strike.

Celebrity Big Brother aired in 2018 and 2019, and returned in 2022, presumably taking a hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 edition was especially controversial as runner-up Todrick Hall received heavy backlash for the way he treated his fellow Big Brother houseguests, including Chris Kirkpatrick and Shanna Moakler. His behavior went far beyond game play, as he resorted to personal attacks in the game. It would be gratifying to see Chris and Shanna, among others, have the chance to play the game again in an all-stars season.

The title of this new possible Big Brother season is very intriguing. There has never been an installment of the show titled Celebrity All-Stars. The name of the show could refer to a celebrity season that welcomes back the best former celebrity houseguests. However, it could also be interpreted as a season that will feature former Big Brother houseguests who have become household names since they appeared on the show. Contestants such as Big Brother season 13 winner Rachel Reilly–who has since appeared on The Amazing Race, Celebrity Fear Factor, Snake in the Grass, and The Traitors, and therefore became a celebrity in her own right–comes to mind.

Celebrity All-Stars could also be the highly desired shortened Big Brother Legends” season that so many former houseguests have wanted to play. Although it is difficult for many of them to commit to competing for a whole summer on Big Brother due to family and professional obligations, they have said that they would play a version of the game that is similar to the shortened celebrity seasons that only last about a month. Whatever this new version turns out to be, more Big Brother is always a good thing for fans of the show.
