After several important roles and proving her acting skills many times, Rosa Salazar is preparing to take a big leap in her career at the hands of Marvel Studios. After days of rumors, it seems that the arrival of the actress in the MCU is already a reality, and she will do so in Captain America: New World Order.
The film, which will mark the official debut of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as the new Captain America after the events of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, began shooting very recently and various details related to the plot and characters have begun to be revealed.
Among this information is the presence of the Serpent Society, a group of supervillains that the main hero and his allies will have to face in this new adventure. And it is precisely within this group where Salazar finds her new role. According to the Murphy’s Multiverse site, the actress will be playing Diamondback, a member of the evil group.
The character was introduced in 1985’s Captain America #310 as part of the Serpent Society, though she ultimately develops a relationship with the titular hero and ends up leaving the group behind to eventually become a S.H.I.E.L.D agent, something that would definitely be an interesting fate for the character within the current franchise, especially with a rising career actress like Salazar behind it.
In addition to Mackie, the cast of Captain America: New World Order is led by Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Liv Tyler, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore and Julia Louis-Dreyfous, with Harrison Ford taking the place of the late William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.
Who is Rosa Salazar?
Rosa Salazar is not a strange name for fans of pop culture and big franchises. Recently, the actress stood out playing the popular cyborg created by Yukito Kishiro in Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel, which managed to completely conquer fans of the cyberpunk manga, who are still waiting for a sequel.
Before that, Salazar had a major role in the Maze Runner saga, making her debut in The Scorch Trials as Brenda. But she had already made her way through the world of young adult novel adaptations with a role in The Divergent Series: Insurgent.
In 2018, she was a part of Netflix’s hit movie Bird Box led by Sandra Bullock, and a year later she would star in Amazon Prime Video’s acclaimed animated series Undone, where she really brings her dramatic skills to the full.
In 2021 she returned to the small screen, again together with Netflix in Brand New Cherry Flavor, based on the novel of the same name by Todd Grimson. Despite not having a long list of titles and having mostly small roles, there is no doubt that her future is bright and joining the MCU will definitely put her under a very much deserved spotlight.
Captain America: New World Order is currently expected to hit cinemas in May 2024.
