Season 7 of Station 19 has been confirmed, and news regarding the release date, cast, story, and more has been forthcoming for the next installment of the ABC drama. The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff follows another institution, the Seattle Fire Department at Station 19. The series follows the professional and personal lives of the station’s firefighters, exploring the daily struggles that come with working with the same set of people every day. Occasionally, a calamitous event occurs to show how those struggles can pale in comparison to the real dangers the firefighters face on the job.
Station 19 premiered on March 22, 2018, after a backdoor pilot premiered on March 1, 2018, with Grey’s Anatomy season 14, episode 13 “You Really Got a Hold on Me.” As a Shondaland production, the show has a similar feel and tone to other series created Shonda Rhimes. While it received generally middling reviews with a 61% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it may not be the juggernaut that Grey’s Anatomy is, Station 19 still has a dedicated following and plot that has kept audiences gripped for six seasons. Station 19 season 7 should have all the drama and action of the previous seasons.
Station 19 Season 7 Latest News
The latest news for Station 19 is the finale of season 6 of the series, which aired on May 19, 2023. This season ended in one of the more exciting and implosive finales in the show’s history. The episode is set during the annual Firefighter’s Ball where Ben Warren was to receive his Medal of Valor, despite his wish not to be there. With everyone in the same ballroom, something major was bound to happen. Unbeknownst to anyone, a sinkhole was growing underneath the dance floor, and all at once the center collapsed, sending many of the unlucky attendees crashing many feet below.
Among those who fall in are Natasha Ross, Kate Powell, Michael Dixon, and a waitress named Nanette who is pregnant. The firefighters work to rescue the victims from the rubble. Robert Sullivan resuscitates Natasha and the two share their first public kiss. Ben and Carina DeLuca-Bishop successfully save Nanette’s child but the mother’s fate is left unclear. One person does not make it: Dixon is unable to be resuscitated and dies on the floor. The reverberations of the final moments of season 6 will have huge impacts on season 7.
Station 19 Season 7 Confirmed
Station 19 season 7 was confirmed with one major change: Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige are taking over as showrunners. Clack, a head writer on the series, and Paige, who has directed multiple episodes, are taking over from Krista Vernoff, who served as showrunner since season 3. This could signal a change in tone for the series. Paige mentioned that he is excited for a “thrilling adventure,” which could imply there will be more action and firefighting scenes in Station 19 season 7 than before. Season 6 focused more on mental health and internal conflicts, so a pivot to more external adventures may be an exciting change for the series.
Station 19 Season 7 Release Date Info
The release date for season 7 of Station 19 is currently unknown. ABC revealed its fall 2023 schedule, via TV Guide, but Station 19 is not listed. This is unusual as seasons 4, 5, and 6 all premiered in the fall. The reason for its omission most likely lies in the 2023 Writer’s Guild Strike, as evidenced by there only being unscripted reality series and game shows scheduled for fall premieres. The only scripted show scheduled at all is Abbott Elementary and that is just for reruns. Season 7 may still be a way off if the writers and production companies don’t soon come to an agreement.
Station 19 Season 7 Cast
According to What to Watch, the main cast of Station 19 remains under contract, so most of the major players should return for season 7. Jaina Lee Ortiz as Andrea Herrera, Jason George as Ben, Grey Damon as Jack Gibson, Barrett Doss as Victoria Hughes, Jay Hayden as Travis Mongomery, and Danielle Savre as Maya DeLuca-Bishop are all set to return to the main cast of Station 19.
Joining those actors who have been with the show from the start are newer regulars Boris Kodjoe as Sullivan, Stefania Spampinato as Carina, Carlos Miranda as Theo Ruiz, Josh Randall as Sean Beckett, and Merle Dandridge as Natasha. These five actors were introduced on Station 19 after season 1 but have become prominent members of the ensemble. Any recurring characters who appear in season 6 could very well appear in season 7, but there have been no official announcements.
Station 19 Season 7 Story Details
Story details for Station 19 season 7 have not been revealed, and with the 2023 Writer Guild Strike ongoing, the story may not be revealed for some time. However, the Station 19 season 6 finale laid some plot threads wide open for further investigation. At the end of season 6, Ben and Carina successfully save a woman’s child, but the fate of the mother is left open. If Nanette does not survive to season 7, perhaps the child could be adopted by Carina and her wife Maya. A similar situation happened in Grey’s Anatomy with Jo Wilson, who adopted her daughter, Luna, as an infant.
With Michael Dixon’s death in the finale, a major antagonist of the show is gone, leaving a vacuum. Season 7 could see the rise of a new enemy. Theo could also be set up as the villain of season 7. Theo and Vic’s relationship on Station 19 has already deteriorated with just one promotion of the former. If he is promoted again, his ego could swell even more. Finally, Natasha and Sullivan’s secret relationship was publicly exposed at the Firefighter’s Ball and the repercussions could be explored. Station 19 season 6 also strayed from Andy as the main character, and season 7 could refocus on her.
