Despite its status as one of the best film and television franchises, Star Wars is sometimes mistaken for producing children’s shows, but in reality, it consistently creates meaningful and action-packed shows like The Clone Wars and Rebels. When Rogue One‘s prequel, Andor, was released, it was met with skepticism from many who assumed it would be just another random spin-off that wouldn’t be able to garner the same audience as The Mandalorian.
Andor, which premiered on September 21, 2022, chronicles the adventures of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), a Kenari who turned rebel as a result of oppressive Imperial rule. Although the series’ strongest suit was its outstanding screenplay and the depth that went into each episode, the characters played a significant role in it.
Even without Cassian, characters such as Luthen (Stellen Skarsgard), Dedra (Denise Gough), and Maarva (Fiona Shaw) ensured that Andor remained an unforgettable series. After such a thrilling debut season, viewers are naturally curious about who will be back for more action in the second season. With that in mind, here are some characters we expect to see in Andor season 2.
Mon Mothma and Luthen
Both Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) and Luthen are vital to the survival of the Rebel Alliance; Mon Mothma serves as an Imperial senator while aiding the rebels, while Luthen works behind the scenes to inflict as much damage on the Empire as possible. Mon suffered greatly in the first season while attempting to raise funds for the rebellion and dealing with family issues, but she made painful choices for the benefit of the rebellion, and many fans are eager to see how she will influence the story in the following season.
Luthen, on the other hand, is a mysterious figure who most likely lost everything dear to him due to the Empire. He was the one who saved Cassian from imperial officials and encouraged him to take on the Aldhani robbery mission. In the end, he even tried to assassinate Cassian to cut off the loose ends, so the Empire wouldn’t be able to weed out the rebels.
He’s a ruthless yet exceptional character, and fans of Andor have already deemed him one of the best in the series. It will be interesting to see how the plot progresses now that Cassian has joined the Rebel Alliance through Luthen.
Kino Loy
Andor has some of the best moments during the prison episodes when Cassian is arrested without reason and taken to an isolated prison called Narkina 5, where the inmates are forced to assemble parts of the Death Star (which is revealed in the series’ post-credit scene). Kino Loy (Andy Serkis) was a convict who also served as the leader of the Five-Two-D, where Cassian worked with other prisoners.
Although he diligently followed the regulations to survive and complete his sentence for freedom, after learning that no one would be able to get out, he inspired everyone to escape the prison, which they succeeded in doing. However, after Kino realized the prison was in the middle of an ocean, he could not escape since he couldn’t swim.
This was the last time we saw this character in the first season, but having Kino return in the second season would add an emotional impact to the story while offering the Rebel Alliance a capable fighter.
Vel and Cinta
Vel (Faye Marsay) and Cinta (Varada Sethu) were a part of Cassian’s team who carried out the Aldhani heist mission. Only three of the six members survived, and they all went their separate ways after the event. We find out later that Vel and Cinta are a couple and that the latter is too preoccupied with the rebellion to care for Vel.
Vel appeared desperate to get intimate with Cinta in the last episode, but she seemed less than interested for the time being. Furthermore, Vel’s relationship with Mon Mothma as the younger sister comes to light, making her an even more essential player in the story. Hopefully, we’ll see the couple enjoy a few romantic moments in the upcoming season, but it’s unlikely to end happily, given that this is the Star Wars universe.
Bix and Brasso
Cassian considers Bix (Adria Arjona) and Brasso (Joplin Sibtain) something like a family and trusts them above everything else. As seen in the first episode, he tells Bix the truth about killing two imperial officials and informs Brasso to become his alibi without hesitation. Dedra Meero even tortured Bix to learn the whereabouts of Cassian when he escaped Ferrix, but she refused to give in.
Meanwhile, during the funeral of Maarava, when a clash ensues between the imperial police and citizens, Brasso expresses his hatred for the Empire. Ultimately, he escorted Bix out of the Ferrix, hoping to meet Cassian later. Since the entire Ferrix town has turned against the Empire, even Bix and Brasso have no choice but to join the Rebel Alliance to survive, and we may get to see them in a full-fledged struggle alongside Cassian in the coming season.
Andor season 2 is expected to be released on Disney+ in August 2024.
