The bar from Cheers is going up for auction, but not before two stars of the classic sitcom were able to pay it a visit one last time. During the 1980s and early 1990s, Cheers was a dominant force on television, serving as one of the most popular shows of its era. Featuring an ensemble cast, it takes place at a bar in Boston where everybody knows your name. Among the main cast members were George Wendt and John Ratzenberger, respectively known for playing Norm Peterson and Cliff Clavin.
Bidding will soon be underway for the real-life bar that served as the shooting location for Cheers. In a video posted to YouTube by Heritage Auctions (seen above), Wendt and Ratzenberger reunite with the actual bar itself, now located at the Heritage Auctions World Headquarters in Dallas, to share some of their memories of filming the series. The reunion comes almost 30 years to the day the series aired its very last episode on May 20, 1993. Given how much time has passed, the actors were pretty impressed to see that so many of the show’s props remained behind, keeping the bar looking very similar to how it had on the television show.
“I was personally pleased that they weren’t throwing it away and burning it,” Ratzenberger says. “Because in Hollywood, that’s mostly what happens. They’ll take a beautiful set down, and just throw it in a rubbish heap.”
“Yeah, you know, I hope the guy who buys it doesn’t burn it down, just to spite you,” Wendt responds.
The bar itself still even has the name “RATZ” carved into it from when Ratzenberger did so on the set decades ago, which he acknowledges. His late co-star Kirstie Alley also left behind her first name carved into the wood as well. Ratzenberg explained how he’d always carried a pen knife with him, and at one point, the two made their mark on the set.

The bar would be amazing to own for fans of the show, but it isn’t going to come cheap for the winner of the auction. It is listed at Heritage Auctions with a current bid of $105,000, and there are still nearly three weeks before it’s sold. The auctioneer has stressed how iconic the set is in its official listing.
“You’ll find no IMDb credit for it, but this humble and traditional neighborhood bar was featured in all 275 episodes and was the singular artifact that all main cast members and guest stars alike gathered around during all 11 seasons of one of the greatest television comedies of all time,” the listing reads.
The bar is a part of Heritage Auctions’ Comisar Collection. Other Cheers props up for auction from the same collection include outfits worn by cast members like Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger, Woody Harrelson, George Wendt, and Paul Willson. The hanging glass lampshade is also up for auction by itself, as our pieces of furniture from the show like benches and chairs. Other auctioned props include a dart board, cash register, and even the old-time upright piano.
