As Chicago Fire enters its hiatus, fans have plenty to ponder following the dramatic Season 11 finale, which left several characters’ futures up in the air.
For Mouch, in particular, the show’s season ender was quite perilous, with the firefighter facing a life-or-death cliffhanger after a cruel bait-and-switch turn of events. (You can’t just tell us he’s OK, then have him coding! Our hearts can only handle so much!)
For others at Firehouse 51, it’s their personal lives that are hanging in the balance, as both Brett and Stella are facing crossroads in their relationships. The paramedic might finally be getting her happy ending with Casey, but what does that mean for her future in the Windy City? Meanwhile, Stella is on a mission to bring her husband Severide back to Chicago.
Below, TVLine presents the five biggest questions coming out of the season finale, including some queries about Violet and Carver, that will be plaguing us until the show eventually returns. (Season 12 is slated to premiere this fall, but with the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, it remains to be seen whether Fire will back in production in time to actually air this fall.)

WILL MOUCH SURVIVE?
Image Credit: Peacock screenshot After being wounded by shrapnel during a dangerous rescue call, Mouch was rushed to the hospital, where he was OK — until he wasn’t. With Herrmann by his bedside, Mouch began to bleed out and code as his friend frantically called for a doctor. The Season 11 finale wasn’t the first time the firefighter has been at death’s door, but will this time prove to be fatal for Mouch? (That would definitely make for a dramatic start to Season 12!) And if so, how will the firehouse handle Mouch’s death, having experienced so much loss already?

WILL BRETT SAY YES TO CASEY’S PROPOSAL?
Image Credit: Courtesy of NBC It was work, not romance, that brought Casey back to Chicago in the season ender, so when he unexpectedly got down on one knee and popped the question, the proposal was met with surprise (and hesitation?) by Brett. Alas, the episode ended before Brett could give Casey her answer, leaving viewers with a romantic cliffhanger. If she does accept, that just brings up even more questions: Will Casey move back to the Windy City to be with Brett? Will Brett leave for Portland? (Related: Can someone in the middle of an adoption just pick up and move?) Or will the couple give long distance another try until they can get married and be together?

WILL STELLA BRING BACK SEVERIDE?
Image Credit: Courtesy of NBC After worrying about Severide’s vague answers about his ATF gig and when he’s coming home, Stella decided to go to him and bring back her hubby. But will she be successful? Or will she return home solo and brokenhearted? That will likely depend on Taylor Kinney, who has been on a leave of absence from the show since January to deal with a personal matter, and when/if he returns to the series in Season 12.

WILL CARVER MAKE A MOVE?
Image Credit: Courtesy of NBC The firehouse’s newest addition got off to a rough start with Stella, but his feelings for his lieutenant have seemingly grown into something more than just professional, and he’s stepped up to be there for her while Severide has been MIA. Plus, we couldn’t help but notice that Carver’s interest was piqued in the season ender by the marital strife between Severide and Stella, leaving us to wonder if Carver will see a window of opportunity to take his shot with Stella.

IS VIOLET REALLY INTO CARVER?
Image Credit: Peacock screenshot With the way Violet was checking out shirtless Carver in the showers, it’s obvious that the paramedic is physically attracted to him. But was she just checking out the eye candy? Or is she actually interested in pursuing something with the firefighter? She sure appeared curious, at the very least, when Carver helped install a light in her apartment earlier this season. If the show is, indeed, planting the seeds for a Carver and Violet romance, does that mean all hope is lost for Violet and Gallo? Whatever the case might be, we’re just happy to see Violet smiling after a very tough season, full of tragedy and scheming.
