Warning! Spoilers ahead for Fast X.Sung Kang, who plays Han Lue in the Fast and Furious saga, shares his reaction to the surprising cameo return of one of the franchise’s biggest stars in the latest film, Fast X. Kang first appeared as Han in the 2006 entry The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and has appeared in some capacity in every film within the main franchise since then apart from 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, in which he was absent due to his character’s supposed death.
Kang spoke to Esquire recently about another character coming back from the dead in Fast X. This time, it was his character’s love interest Gisele Yashar, played by Gal Gadot, who came back to the franchise unexpectedly, though she was not the only one to make a surprise return at the end of Fast X. Kang discussed how Gadot’s success as Wonder Woman in the DC Universe has also helped their movies find more success. Check out Kang’s full quote below:
I knew it was inevitable. First, we’re talking about Fast, and an audience that is now used to getting what they want when they ask for a character to come back. Because of where Gal’s career has gone with Wonder Woman, and the goodwill and love that she has from people around the world, it’s awesome that another franchise can help our franchise. This past year has been a renaissance for the movie-going experience, with wonderful films like Top Gun: Maverick giving this resurgence to how we fell in love with films. And so for Gal to have that type of reaction with the audience, that’s what we want to hear.
What’s Next For Gisele And Han?
At this point in the Fast and Furious franchise, it’s not exactly shocking when a character is brought back from the dead. However, as two of the core members of Dominic Toretto’s crew, the revivals of Han and Gisele were pretty big twists. Gisele seemingly died at the end of Fast & Furious 6 when she fell from a plane after sacrificing herself to save Han, but she made her return in the final scene of Fast X when she arrived in a submarine to save Letty and Cipher from a prison in Antarctica.
Han was supposed to have died at the end of Tokyo Drift, which was released early in the franchise but is set after Fast & Furious 6. He was eventually revealed to have faked his own death to work for Mr. Nobody in F9. Considering the two were living happily as a couple in Hong Kong the last time they were both alive and safe, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Gisele and Han have an emotional reunion at some point in the upcoming Fast & Furious 11.
Since Mr. Nobody helped Han fake his death, it’s quite possible that the shady government agent could have done the same for a former Mossad agent like Gisele, which would allow Han and Gisele to bond over their similar experiences. After they assist Dom with whatever issues arise in the films following Fast X, it is plausible that Han and Gisele could finally return to Hong Kong and live happily ever after with Han’s adoptive daughter, Elle.
