Frankie Muniz Making First Movie In 5 Years After Addressing Health Concerns

After addressing his health concerns, Frankie Muniz is finally set to make another movie. The actor, now 37 years old, got his start as a teenager playing the titular character in Malcolm in the Middle, which ran on Fox from 2000 to 2006. Muniz mostly stepped away from his career, but the actor has appeared in some film and television roles.

Muniz will re-enter the film acting scene after a five-year hiatus. According to Deadline, Muniz will star in sci-fi thriller Renner, which is set for production this summer. Renner will co-star The Flash’s Violett Beane and be directed by Robert Rippberger (Those Who Walk Away).

Why This Casting is Significant for Frankie Muniz

Renner will mark Muniz’s first film role in five years, the last one being horror-thriller The Black String in 2018. The actor’s re-entry to film and television has been a tumultuous one. Following his Malcolm in the Middle child stardom, Muniz got into race car driving. There, he suffered nine concussions and a series of mini-strokes that left him with memory loss issues.

Muniz admitted these health challenges in 2017 when he appeared on Dancing with the Stars. This revelation led to rumors that the former child star did not remember his time acting on Malcolm in the Middle, as when asked what his most memorable year was, he did not offer an immediate response. Muniz later debunked these rumors, claiming that while he did struggle with memory loss due to his concussions, the media had exaggerated the extent of his health issues.

Between the health concerns and the widespread media rumors after Dancing with the Stars, Muniz has still been in the spotlight even without acting in major roles. Renner could be Muniz’s opportunity to re-establish his acting career, getting attention for his talent rather than his personal life. Helmed by budding thriller director Rippberger and featuring a notable co-star in Beane, hopefully, Renner can be a successful next project for Muniz’s career.
