Chris Pratt has had his fair share of online hate, from his casting as Mario in Illumination’s billion dollar animated feature to his faith. It is the latter of these that Pratt says has greatly helped him deal with trolls that come for him online, saying it is no different to the struggles of Jesus Christ.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star has seen plenty of criticism thrown his way in the last year, but along with the support of colleagues, family and friends, the actor says that being trolled for his faith is nothing that he hasn’t dealt with before, and it is something that helps him ignore the hate he often receives. When asked about the amount of abuse he is subjected to online, Pratt told Page Six:
“I sure do but that’s nothing new, that’s nothing new, you know? If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18 through 20. That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated [Jesus], too.”
It is also about having a tough skin, and that is something that many celebrities have developed over the years, when a small part of the internet seems to only exist in order to pull down anyone they can. Pratt continued:
“Like a rhino, stick your head down, you keep driving forward, you have thick skin and if anyone gets in your way, you stick the horn right up their ass!”
Chris Pratt’s Cinema Record Blows Away Any of His Online Trolls
No matter how many people attack Chris Pratt online, there is no denying that the actor is massively popular and seems to hit the mark every time in the projects he chooses to be involved in. Having seen critics tear into The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Tomorrow War and The Terminal List, Pratt has had the last laugh with all of them as audiences countered those opinions by making all of them huge hits.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was under fire from the moment Pratt was cast as the lead voice star, but it has already become the highest grossing movie of the year and has taken almost three times Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s total gross in just a few weeks. Now Pratt is almost certain to have the second highest grosser with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which released this weekend to a decent opening haul and will likely overtake Marvel’s previous release by the end of its cinematic run. Although it is unlikely the film will hit the kind of box office The Super Mario Bros. Movie has seen, it is still a pretty impressive achievement.
Pratt is not done either. Next year will see him bringing a voice to another iconic animated character in the new Garfield movie, and will be reuniting with Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo for The Electric State. For his fans, this means there are plenty more projects in the works for Pratt, and for his trolls there are plenty more opportunities to get behind those keyboards. Just don’t expect Pratt to allow any of it to make a difference.
