Details regarding Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire signal that the movie’s new ape villain actually ate Godzilla’s family. The teaser trailer for the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel provided a glimpse at a new MonsterVerse Titan, who appears to be on a collision course with Godzilla and Kong. From the looks of things, this mysterious creature is a member of Kong’s species.
With Kong being the lone ape Titan on Skull Island, it was assumed that the rest of them had long been dead. However, the confirmation that the Hollow Earth world is Kong’s original home opened the door for more of his kind to be found. And, it seems that at least one is indeed lurking down there somewhere. The evil Kong’s impending introduction is expected to help expand the MonsterVerse mythos and the histories of the movies’ two titular Titans. As for what his connection to it all really is, it’s possible that he’s the real reason for Godzilla’s rivalry with the Kongs. In fact, one theory – supported by strong evidence – postulates that the ape devoured Godzilla’s family members.
Godzilla vs. Kong 2’s Ape Villain Seemingly Has Godzilla’s Power
The Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire teaser trailer hints at a massive link between Godzilla and the villain. Whoever he is, he has glowing blue eyes. Because Kong’s eyes don’t glow, it’s apparent that this characteristic isn’t associated with species. For Godzilla’s kind, though, it’s completely natural, given that a powerful form of energy flows within their veins. Judging by the new villain’s eyes, he too may have access to this power. After all, the color matches that of the atomic energy Godzilla uses in his MonsterVerse movies.
Godzilla vs. Kong confirmed that the Kongs did share a connection to it, on at least some level. The movie confirmed that their Hollow Earth temple housed an access point where they were able to charge up axes made from Godzilla’s dorsal fins. But while it was no secret that they could only harness the power through weapons, prior to the teaser trailer, there was no indication that Kong’s species could control the energy in any other way. What this tease indicates is that the ape must have found a way to absorb Godzilla’s power into his own body.
How The Ape Villain Could Steal Godzilla’s Energy
Godzilla vs. Kong 2’s villain possessing even a fraction of Godzilla’s power begs the question of how he could pull off such a remarkable feat. As noted above, the Kongs did have access to the energy via the temple, but that alone doesn’t explain how the ape villain could have absorbed it. If they were capable of draining power into their bodies, they wouldn’t have had any need for the axes. For that reason, it’s likely that the MonsterVerse has a different explanation for the ape villain’s apparent acquisition of Godzilla’s energy. One possible answer to this mystery is that the creature consumed members of Godzilla’s species.
This idea is in line with what’s shown in the Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire teaser trailer. Bones of Titans surround the throne where the monster sits. Curiously, some of them belong to Godzilla’s species. The direct implication here is that the MonsterVerse’s evil Kong killed some of Godzilla’s ancestors in the MonsterVerse, but based on the connection between the monster and Godzilla’s power, there might be a deeper, much more sinister reason for the Godzilla bones in the teaser trailer. It could be that by eating the meat from the bones of other Godzillas, the monster was able to soak up their atomic energy.
Godzilla vs. Kong 2’s Villain Tease May Explain Why The Titan War Happened
If it were to be revealed that Godzilla vs. Kong 2’s villain devoured the bodies of Godzilla’s ancestors, that would allow for a great deal of insight into the Titan War and why it really happened. Since the evil Kong is shown to be sitting on a throne, he may have been the Kongs’ alpha, which is a role that would give him the means to start a war with the Godzillas. If he had that authority, he may have purposively orchestrated the Titan War as a way to achieve his own personal goals. If he convinced the Kongs that the Godzillas were a threat and started a war, he could have created an opportunity to steal Godzilla’s power for himself.
If he stole Godzilla’s energy, there’s a strong likelihood that the fault for the Titar War lies with him, regardless of whether he was the leader of the Kongs. Even if he was an outlier of his kind who acted on his own, his actions would have kickstarted a brutal inter-species conflict regardless. If the Godzillas discovered that a Kong attacked them without provocation and ate their bodies, it goes without saying that this would have inspired some form of retaliation. That would be enough to start the MonsterVerse’s ancient Titan War. Obviously, that would make the MonsterVerse’s new villain the real enemy of Godzilla and Kong all along.
What Having Godzilla’s Energy Would Mean For Evil Kong’s Power Level
If it’s true that Godzilla vs. Kong 2’s villain risked a war between his species and Godzilla’s, that says a lot about the rewards he must have reaped from his efforts. For him to go to these lengths, it stands to reason that any upgrade the evil Kong gained from Godzilla’s power was tremendous. Draining the energy likely strengthened him considerably. That makes sense, especially when keeping in mind that he’s being positioned to serve as a major villain in the film – if not its central antagonist.
As for what this upgrade might consist of, aside from a large boost in his physical strength, it’s possible that it granted him his own atomic breath ability or some other method of discharging it. That would give him an extra weapon in his arsenal, and one he might need in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. To become a “world-ending threat” capable of challenging Godzilla and Kong, a substantial power-up (and extra abilities) would be necessary. After all, Godzilla vs. Kong proved that the Kongs are naturally weaker than Godzilla. What Godzilla himself has done with this power, such as blasting a hole all the way through to the Hollow Earth, proves it can be a huge difference-maker in the MonsterVerse.
