How To Build a Hover Bike In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

One of the easiest vehicles players can build in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a Hover Bike: a basic flying machine that Link can use to quickly get from A to B. The Hover Bike’s simple design and flight capabilities give it a few advantages over horses and more complex Zonai flying machines.

By using Link’s Ultrahand ability, players can connect Zonai devices to create elaborate machines, including cars and planes. However, while building a powerful plane in Zelda: TOTK is a great way to travel around Hyrule, players need experience with Ultrahand to figure out how to build more complicated machines. On top of that, Zonai devices can’t be placed back in Link’s inventory, which makes complex machines expensive to build. In contrast, the Hover Bike is both cheap and easy to build.

How To Build A Hover Bike In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

The most basic Hover Bike design in Tears of the Kingdom only requires two Zonai Fans and a single Steering Stick. Fans can be obtained from Zonai Device Dispensers in the Great Sky Island and near the Kadaunar Shrine in the South Eldin Sky Archipelago. Steering Sticks are a bit trickier to find, but players can obtain them from the Device Dispenser near the Mayam Shrine in the North Hyrule Sky Archipelago.

To build a Hover Bike, players should place two Fans facing downwards and connect them with the Steering Stick platform. It’s generally quite a simple build, but players should ensure the Steering Stick is well-balanced between the fans. Poor balance will cause the Hover Bike to tilt in one direction while in the air.

Once complete, players can take it for a test drive and save it for an easier build later using Link’s Autobuild ability. The Hover Bike can give players a bit of extra vertical maneuverability, particularly early on in the game when getting high up can be challenging. However, later in the game, players will need to upgrade their Hover Bike designs to make them viable for long-distance travel.

One highly recommended upgrade is to rotate the Steering Stick 90 degrees and add another Zonai Fan. It’s a relatively low-cost upgrade, but having three Fans gives players much more control over their Hover Bike’s movements. This extra control ultimately means players can navigate difficult terrain with less trouble. A Zonai Light is also ideal if players plan to use their Hover Bikes in the Depths, where darkness makes travel challenging.

Players should also consider that the more components they use, the more Energy they’ll need. Attaching a few Batteries reduces the strain on Link’s Energy Cell, giving the Hover Bike some extra time in the air and extended flight range as a result. Autobuild ensures that building these machines is easy enough, but players may need more Zonaite in Zelda: TOTK to cover the component cost.

Ultimately, players will likely end up building hovercrafts, planes, and cars to get around. However, the Hover Bike remains an excellent choice in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for a relatively cheap and straightforward method of getting in the air.
