Jane Fonda Is Having The Most Entertaining Movie Comeback Year Of Her Career


2023 is shaping up to be the most exciting year in Jane Fonda‘s career, with a line-up of anticipated comeback movies ahead. Although Fonda has remained active in film and television over recent years, never before has Fonda had so many releases in the same year in which she boasts prominent roles. It’s not just the number of films being released in 2023 that make it an exciting comeback year for the star, it’s the tone of the films too.


Fonda has done outstanding work in Netflix’s comedy series Grace and Frankie (2015–2022), earning a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. In the show, Fonda co-starred alongside her colleague and long-time friend Lily Tomlin, whom she first worked with in the hit film Nine to Five (1980). Other such movie successes for multi-Oscar winner Jane Fonda include Klute, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, and Coming Home.

Jane Fonda Has Four New Comedy Movies Out In 2023

2023 is a significant year for Fonda; not since the 1970s, during which she starred in 12 films, has she boasted so many movie releases with major roles in close succession. Fonda stars in four new comedy films in 2023. The box office success 80 for Brady arrived in February, Moving On released in theaters in March, and the sequel to Book Club (2018), entitled Book Club: The Next Chapter, will be released on May 12th. It will see Fonda reignite her friendship with fellow co-stars Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen, as four friends who read and subsequently begin to change how they view their personal relationships.

Finally, Fonda also has yet another exciting new project this year – the animated movie Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, set for release in June. The movie will be a coming-of-age fantasy action-comedy story, which sees sixteen-year-old Kraken girl Ruby Gillman learn that she is next in the line of legendary sea krakens. Fonda will play the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas, Ruby’s grandmother who ascends Ruby to her throne.

With all of these films being released this year, Fonda is experiencing one of the most exciting comebacks of her career. Regardless of critical reception, the films show Fonda demonstrating an on-screen charisma, chemistry with her costars, and energy that is highly impressive for an actor in their mid-80s. Her choices themselves are also admirable, showing the free-spirited streak the acclaimed actress is known for.

The past year has seen many notable Hollywood comebacks, including Lindsay Lohan, Cameron Diaz, and Brendan Fraser’s Oscar win for The Whale. So Fonda is continuing an exciting trend in the industry.
