Max Black Gave Us the Best Life Lessons Ever

2 Broke Girls entertained viewers with its comedic plot and double entendre for six seasons. The sitcom is about two girls named Maxine George Black and Caroline Channing, played by Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, respectively, who work as waitresses at the Brooklyn Diner and, in the process, develop a strong friendship. Their personalities are contrary to one another, and both come from different walks of life. Caroline is a rich girl whose dad went bankrupt in a Ponzi scheme, bringing her family back to the streets. Whereas Max comes from a poor background, whose mother abandoned her and father still remains unknown.

The series also consists of other fun characters like Oleg (Jonathan Kite), Han Lee (Matthew Moy), Sophie Kachinsky (Jennifer Coolidge), and Earl (Garrett Morris). But Max Black’s character stood out from the rest by giving hard-hitting life lessons in the most sarcastic way possible. Dennings brings this slightly rude and witty character to life on-screen. In the show, Max has had a messy and broken life lately, but she chooses to have a dead-inside attitude toward it and often uses humor to suppress her feelings. Alcohol and getting high are her ways out of problems, but her character’s humorous approach toward life taught us many things.

Max never had the privilege to experience the fancier side of life. Neither did she live under the veil of her parents to have a comfortable and worry-free life. She is an independent woman, earning her own livelihood, and has an apartment three blocks away from the diner she works at. But her character never complained about the monotonous life and is often seen appreciating the simplest joys of life. Self-pitying is not her thing; rather, she uses her incredible humor to deal with challenging situations.

Even though many people let her down, she continues to cherish and nurture her friendship with Caroline Channing and her other friends at the diner. Her happiness isn’t dependent on luxurious gestures; she savors the little triumphs in life like getting a good tip, reminiscing about memories of her beloved stuffed toy, or finding things at cheaper prices.

Embrace the Flaws and Know Your Worth

Max is an exquisite character who doesn’t believe in changing herself to fit unrealistic societal beauty standards. She is an advocate of self-love and authenticity and is least concerned about seeking validation from others. She embraces her imperfections and is often seen questioning society’s definition of what’s pretty. At times, Max even contemplates her life decisions, but soon realizes the importance of embracing flaws and confronting one’s fears.

Though her character uses self-deprecating humor at times to hide emotions, she bravely shows her vulnerable side and opens up about her past in later episodes. She has been questioned about her culinary skills often and has faced self-doubt, but she continues to have unwavering self-belief. She also empowers her roommate turned best friend, Caroline, in her journey of facing insecurities and rebuilding self-esteem.

To Be Calm Amidst Life’s Storms

Caroline worries and panics a bit, whereas Max remains calm and composed in troubled situations, encouraging those around her to find the good in the bad. She might be a bit pessimistic at times, but when difficulty arises, her funny side pops up to uplift everyone’s mood. She is good at being level-headed and finding ways out of bad times. There is one iconic quote of hers that sums up her calm demeanor in a better way: “You really need to chill. You can’t keep freaking out because you’re not where you want to be—on vacation or in our business. I mean, it’s life. Lower your expectations!”

In her everyday life, she is busy handling her diner job, cupcake business, attending pastry class, and maintaining her chaotic love life. Even after juggling between things and dealing with messy situations, her practicality and poised behavior remain intact. During the season finale, too, she makes a life-changing decision by saying yes to an engagement proposal from the love of her life, Randy, and decides to take things slowly with him.

To Follow the YOLO Mantra and Set Boundaries

Her character is a perfect definition of how important it is to set certain boundaries and not let other people cross them. Other people’s inappropriate behavior, disrespect, and unfair treatment don’t sit well with her, and she schools them when required. She knows her worth and doesn’t let anyone treat her badly. Throughout 2 Broke Girls, Max has been pretty straightforward in saying “no” to things she doesn’t want to do, but she is never afraid to take risks and explore something new.

All thanks to Caroline too, as she gives Max a push to pursue her passion of baking. They start a cupcake business together while performing part-time duties at the diner. Max is a dedicated follower of the YOLO philosophy, which is why you may see her doing things that bring her pleasure. She lives life on her own terms and is always open to new adventures without worrying about the consequences. She seizes opportunities and embraces new experiences without caring about societal norms or judgments.

Today, channel your inner Max Black, step out of your comfort zone, and find joy in the ordinary!
