We say: Effectiveness at the border?
Tens of thousands of migrants have been illegally crossing into the country per day with barely any resistance — and promptly vanishing.
They’ve caused nightmares for border towns and cities like New York. That’s what Mayorkas calls “effective”?
Actually, he was bragging about a new Team Biden program that basically deems certain illegal entries legal (despite the lack of congressional approval).
Great. Americans might just prefer failure.
This headline:
“Hundreds of US troops to arrive at the border as officials and migrants brace ‘for the unknown’ of Title 42’s expiration”
— CNN, Wednesday
We say: Americans are on edge over the expected tidal wave of migrants as Team Biden stops using Title 42 to reject them.
Mayors and governors are racing to find resources to accommodate the influx. Yet CNN chooses to highlight the migrants’ anxiety?
Ha!
Even the network must’ve realized its headline was wacky; the headline on its updated story flags both “officials and migrants” as “brac[ing] ‘for the unknown.’”
These columns:
“The media’s focus on Jordan Neely’s mental health reeks of racism”
and
“The New York subway death is a symptom of a bigger problem”
— MSNBC, May 3
We say: Everything “reeks of racism” to MSNBC (which is almost like saying nothing does).
But how is it racist to note that Jordan Neely needed help?
In run-ins with cops, he himself admitted he was schizophrenic and didn’t take his meds.
His mental illness clearly fueled his menacing behavior, which prompted a subway rider to restrain him, leading tragically to his death.
Heck, even MSNBC flagged Neely’s mental illness in another piece that blames hatred of the homeless for the incident. (Hmm: Are homeless haters or racists at fault here?)
This headline:
“House Republicans escalate attacks on Biden family, alleging business with foreign nationals”
— NBC, Wednesday
We say: Sorry: Republicans didn’t “escalate” any “attacks”; they merely reported on millions in dubious payments from foreign nationals that went to nine Biden family members via shady LLC shell companies in what was surely an influence-peddling racket the family sought to hide.
If this was Donald Trump’s family, NBC would be calling for impeachment — and Democrats would comply (several times over!).
This column:
We say: Corporate managers — and their employees — are surely right to question diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, which prioritize race over merit and distract businesses from their core missions.
Yet this Fortune column instructs companies on ways to resist “resisters” who raise such concerns. Sure, writer Y-Vonne Hutchinson wants to promote DEI programs; she runs a firm that provides DEI training.
But wouldn’t it have been fairer to Fortune’s readers to have labeled her column an “ad”?
