The Emmy’s may need to brace themselves for the arrival of something big and green arriving in their midst as Marvel Studios have gone all-in on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law when it comes to this year’s offerings for consideration. WhileShe-Hulk was always likely to turn up in the long lists of categories such as visual effects and costumes, the series has been put forward for a total of 19 categories including writing, production and directing. The series has also been put forward for the big Outstanding Comedy series category, although there are plenty who could have something to say about that one.
The news, as per Deadline, could be a surprise to many MCU fans who really didn’t gel with the show from the start all the way through to its conclusion…well, end. From complaints about the design and VFX of Jennifer Walters’ alter-ego, to the final fifteen minutes that seemed to concentrate more on random introductions, such as Hulk’s son Skaar, and making a point that there doesn’t always have to be a “Marvel Ending” to everything.
Among the awards Marvel are hoping to get She-Hulk some kind of recognition from are Tatiana Maslany being submitted for Lead Actress, and big MCU names Mark Ruffalo, Benedict Wong and Charlie Cox all being put forward for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. We all remember that Don Cheadle managed to nab himself an Emmy for appearing The Falcon and the Winter Soldier for all of a minute, which means that there could be at least one Marvel Emmy in the bag if they can secure a nomination.
Among the many other categories the show is in consideration for are Directing for a Comedy Series, Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series, Production Design for a Narrative Program and Original Main Title Theme Music.
Can She-Hulk: Attorney at Law be a Big Winner At The Emmys?
Marvel Studios has struggled to hit the big prizes at the Emmys, with hugely popular shows such as WandaVision andLoki being practically snubbed at the awards. While Marvel has picked up some surprising awards, such as an original music and lyrics award for WandaVision’s Agatha All Along, the quest for one of the big awards is still on. Is She-Hulk really the show that could do it?
The main issue with the Emmy’s, similar to the Oscars, is that superhero offerings just don’t seem to be able to compete against straight dramas when it comes to limited series. With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law falling into the comedy categories, this may well give Marvel a better chance of success, but only if opinions about the series don’t mirror those of fans who tore down the show when it originally aired back in August last year. Those particular feelings have clearly not gone away as can be seen by the reactions to the news below.
Even though She-Hulk did capture the original craziness of the comic books, the straight up comedy show was not what people were seemingly expecting despite Marvel’s marketing making it clear. Whether the Emmys will see the show in a different light is something that will be be revealed on September 19 when the 75th Emmy Awards take place.
