Sonia Pizarro, Operation Repo Star, Dies at 60

Sonia Pizarro of Operation Repo fame has sadly passed away. The reality show, which ran for eleven seasons on Telemundo and TruTV, depicts stories of repossessions going awry in the style of a documentary series. It ran from 2006 to 2014 and was created by Luis Pizarro, who served as one of the stars of the show. Sonia, his sister, was brought in to serve as one of the main cast members and became the boss. She just might be the most memorable personality on the show and helped keep the show popular with viewers during an era that was completely dominated by reality television.

On Instagram, Pizarro’s ex-husband, Froylan Tercaro, announced that she had died at the age of 60. The post included an image of Pizarro along with a statement expressing how sad he is to say goodbye. Tercaro says she will always have a “special place” in his heart despite their divorce.

“I’m deeply sad to inform you that Sonia has passed away,” the statement reads. “[To] many she was a bad ass chick that kicked some serious ass, to me she was and will always be my ex wife, the mother of my son and she will always have a place in my heart and on my body since I still have her name tattooed on my stomach.”

The message adds, “Sonia we love you and I will honor you with all the good mementoes you have me, thank you and I love you.

I will be stepping away from social media for some time, thank you guys for understanding, love you guys.”

Pizarro reportedly died in her sleep on Wednesday night in Arizona. A cause of death wasn’t immediately available, though TMZ reports that Pizarro has suffered from previous medical complications. That includes a hospitalization in 2018 following a stroke, which caused a loss of speech and required physical therapy to recover. However, Pizarro’s niece and Operation Repo co-star Lyndah Pizarro says that the stroke was not related to Pizarro’s passing.

Pizarro’s work in show business went beyond her work with Operation Repo on TV, as she’s also done some work wtih film that saw her acting. That includes acting in the spinoff films Operation Sonia: Love Thy Bleeping Neighbor and Operation Repo: Lou’s Revenge. Those movies were released in 2016. Pizarro also starred in the 2009 comedy movie Repo Chick, playing the character by the name of Freddie Mac Offender. In 2018, she had a role in the horror movie Followed. She played a homeless person in that film.

Survivors include three children, Ruby Robert, and Froylan Jr., along with three grandchildren, Bryant, Brie, and Danica. Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this painful time.
