Spa destinations can be found across the UK, with a host of hotels and speciality retreats offering relaxing getaways often with great booking deals. While pricing and treatments are two of the most important things to consider when planning a trip, the location also matters. Experts at the leading spa experience booking agency Spabreaks.com, have mapped out exactly where to go for the best experience.
Best spas in the UK
According to the team of experts, the south of England came out on top for the. best spa experiences in 2022.
The region totalled 57.5 percent of all bookings made in 2022, outranking spa breaks offered in the North of the country, which gained 42.6 percent of bookings.Â
While it’s renowned for its unique landscape made up of stunning coastlines, quaint villages and green spaces, the southern region is also famed for being the home of the British capital.
And with so many different places to unwind, the region is home to some of the most sought-after spa destinations – including Rena Spa at Leonardo Royal Tower Bridge Hotel.Â

Taking the number one spot in the ranking of the “most popular” spas in the south, the Rena spa boasts exquisite views of London – with Tower Bridge and the Tower of London on its doorstep.
Branded “an oasis of calm” by Abi Selby, founder of Spabreaks.com, the city spot’s “elegant facilities” include a 25-metre swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a steam room and a sauna. It also offers an indulgent menu of beauty treatments and holistic therapies.Â
Second, on the list was the Rena Spa at Leonardo Royal St Paul’s Hotel. Part of the Rena chain, the destination offers thermal experiences including a laconium, tepidarium and steam room and of course the stunning 18-metre heated pool.
Caudalie skincare products are used for treatments, which combine facials, massages and body rituals depending on how guests choose to indulge themselves.
The third best spa in the south of England can also be found in the capital – the W London Away Spa.
Located in the heart of Soho, the spa experts described the spot as the “perfect” getaway for groups or couples, adding that it is a go-to for celebrities.
In the North of England, Doubletree by Hilton Chester Hotel came out on top.Â
The manor house is set on 12 acres of landscaped ground with an abundance of space for dining and social time. The luxury club and spa boast 14 treatment rooms, a pool, a steam room and a rasul.

Rena Spa at The Midland was ranked the second most popular spot in the North and described as “an underground haven”.
Abi said: “There are a number of impressive experiences to enjoy such as the Caribbean Storm and Arctic Rain showers, but the piece de resistance is the relaxation areas.
“Here, you can choose from discovering sleep in a hanging pod cocoon, in an ergonomic sleep chamber or in a sound-cancelling egg chair.
“Top this off with a luxury ESPA treatment, delivered on a bed with a comforting duvet.”
Third on the list is the Mercury Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, located only eight miles from Manchester, and yet surrounded by landscaped gardens.
In addition to surrounding views of the Pennine Hills, shopping, nightlife and sightseeing are at the fingertips of guests staying at the hotel spa.
The spot includes a gym, swimming pool and thermal suite, along with six treatment rooms offering body and facial treatments with Decleor products.Â
