Shrines are back in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but with how much the sequel to Breath of the Wild has expanded, many series veterans and newcomers alike may be wondering just how many shrines are in TOTK. Due to the massive size of TOTK‘s three maps and how much there is to explore, overlooking shrines can be detrimental for Link’s progression, since four Blessings from these Shrines means a new Stamina or Heart Container.
How many shrines are in TOTK is an understandable question, since shrines are arguably harder to find in Tears of the Kingdom when compared to BOTW. The latest Zelda game has added sky islands and the Depths to BOTW‘s map of Hyrule, meaning Link can explore massive underground areas and island-hop above the clouds. This means there are now three maps to cycle through, so finding every shrine in Tears of the Kingdom can get tricky.
There Are 152 Shrines In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
There are 152 shrines in Tears of the Kingdom, which is 32 more than the 120 found in Breath of the Wild. Considering how much bigger TOTK‘s map is than BOTW‘s, this isn’t actually much of a discrepancy. The shrines in TOTK are split between the sky islands and the main overworld of Hyrule, so players don’t have to worry about scouring the Depths for any shrines.
How Many Shrines Are In The Sky In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The additional 32 shrines in Tears of the Kingdom can be found in the sky. As in Breath of the Wild, 120 shrines are still on the ground. Many of these sky island shrines can be spottted when getting blasted upward from a Skyview Tower, but some – like the Jirutagumac Shrine – are hidden pretty well and may be hard to spot from simply gliding around the clouds. Overall, the sky islands make up a significantly smaller portion of total landmass than Hyrule’s main map, so it makes sense that there are signficantly fewer shrines located in the sky.
How Many Shrines Are In The Depths In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
There are actually no shrines in the Depths in Tears of the Kingdom. For any Gloom-fearing adventurers, this is probably a great thing. However, there are still ways to fast travel in the Depths, thanks to Lightroots. These look a lot like shrines from the outside, and Link interacts with them similarly to activate the fast travel location. However, Lightroots don’t open up and aren’t accompanied by a puzzle the way TOTK‘s shrines are.
To recap, for those looking to 100% the game, there are 152 shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. 32 are in the sky, while 120 are on the ground. There are no shrines in the Depths, but players can access fast travels locations underground by activating Lightroots.
