The awards were pouring in for The Last of Us at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday. After series star Pedro Pascal first won the award for Best Hero for his role in the series as Joel, he and co-star Bella Ramsey won for Best Duo. The accolades continued to roll in when The Last of Us also took the award for Best Show, and Pascal appears in a pre-recorded video with all three golden popcorns to thank the fans for the honor.
“Thank you MTV Movie & TV Awards,” Pascal says in the video. “I am accepting these golden popcorns on behalf of The Last of Us show creators Craig Mazin, and Neil Druckmann, and our entire amazing cast and crew from the U.S. and from Canada, who worked tirelessly and passionately to make this show. They made it a family experience, one of the best experiences of my life.”
Speaking on behalf of the rest of the Last of Us team, Pascal adds, “We are all thanking HBO and Naughty Dog, and standing in solitary with the WGA, that is fighting very hard for fair wages. We thank you, we love you. I’m going to take these [golden popcorns] to bed with me.”
There were many good shows up for the award, making the win that much better for The Last of Us. The other nominees included Stranger Things, The White Lotus, Wednesday, Wolf Pack, Yellowjackets, and Yellowstone.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey Voted as the Best Duo
Earlier, Pascal and Ramsey had won Best Duo. Pascal had similarly appeared in a video, holding the new award along with the Best Hero award he’d won earlier that night. He told Ramsey that to get her golden popcorn, she’d have to come get it, that he “I can see you again.”
“I miss you, I love you, you are the duo,” Pascal further says. “We love MTV, and thank you MTV Movie & TV Awards. Thank you to the fans. Gosh, it feels like there isn’t anything we wouldn’t do for you, because of how much you embraced the show. I wish Bella and I were together, but we will be soon, so stay tuned!”
A second video was also shared of Ramsey at home to address the win. Ramsey admitted to not knowing what else to say other than to thank the awards show along with the fans for all of the support.
“Thank you for having us, and for the fans who voted for us, and who love the show and continue to support us and the show, it means the world,” Ramsey says. “Me and Pedro love each other deeply. I love him, and I can’t imagine doing this without him.”
Other nominees for Best Duo included Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke for Do Revenge; Jenna Ortega and Voctor Dorobantu for Wednesday; Simona Tabasco and Beatrice Granno for The White Lotus; and Tom Cruise and Miles Teller for Top Gun: Maverick.
The Last of Us has a second season in the works which is expected to start filming in the coming months. You can stream the first season on HBO Max.
