The sunniest destination for a UK staycation is ‘brilliant’ – full list | Travel News | Travel


The travel expert team at PowerEPOS have looked for the UK’s sunniest staycation destinations for 2023. A coastal city made the top spot.

Brighton and Hove was the sunniest place in the UK, according to the team with an average of 1,892 annual sunshine hours.

The coastal city could be the perfect place to spend a weekend this summer, with a better chance of sunshine than other destinations.

Although Brighton Beach is obviously one of the city’s top attractions, tourists could also spend some time wandering the Lanes.

The Lanes are a labyrinth of shops, squares and cafes, filled with treasures and souvenirs to discover.

A tourist ‘Ian B’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Great time! Brilliant time to browse, people watch and eat. Lots of retro music and clothes shops and wonderful places to have lunch.”

Another visitor ‘Paul F’ wrote: “Wonderful area for shopping with the best collection of independent jewellers you will ever see in one place. Fully pedestrianised and a real pleasure to walk around.”

Tourists should also check out the city’s famous Royal Pavilion, one of Brighton’s most incredible architectural landmarks.

A visitor ‘Jane53england’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “What a spectacular place to visit. The decorations and furnishings are fabulous.”

Another coastal city grabbed second place on the list. Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard is one of the city’s top attractions.

The dockyard is home to the National Museum of the Royal Navy, the warship HMS Victory and the Tudor Mary Rose.

Tourists can get to grips with the history of the Tudor ship, Henry VIII’s favourite warship, at the museum.

Plymouth, took third place on the list, and could be the perfect spot for Britons looking for an affordable Devon staycation.

The southern city has one of the UK’s most impressive lido pools with breathtaking sea views.

Tourists could try one of the restaurants at Royal William Yard or take the family to the National Marine Aquarium.

Southampton and Bournemouth rounded off the top five, while Woking was the first non-coastal city to make the list.

Liverpool just outside the top 10 which could mean Eurovision fans are in for a treat this weekend.
