The world’s best holiday destination is under two hours from the UK – full list | Travel News | Travel

Although holiday prices are rising, over 75 percent of UK households plan to go on a holiday in 2023.

While the world’s cheapest destinations have plenty to offer, for some Britons there’s nothing better than a luxury break.

New research from the travel experts at Blue Cruise has named the world’s most luxurious holiday destinations.

Luckily for British tourists, this year’s top destination is under two hours away from the UK with multiple travel options.

To find this year’s winning luxury destination, the team looked at the number of Michelin restaurants, bars, 5* restaurants and art galleries.

Paris topped the list with 478 Michelin restaurants and almost 1,500 5* restaurants, while the city is packed with museums and galleries.

British travellers can reach the City of Lights with a short flight from the UK taking under two hours or on the Eurostar which takes around two and a half hours.

Tourists who want to enjoy the luxe lifestyle in the French capital could stay at the Bulgari Hotel, just steps from the Champs Elysees, but this will set them back over £1,500 per night.

A trip to the Cedric Grolet patisserie is another must for glamorous tourists although one of the famous baker’s fruit shaped pastries will set customers back 17 euros (£14.80).

Paris might be this year’s top luxury destination but it’s possible to enjoy the city without breaking the bank. It might not have a Michelin star but the falafel at L’As du Fallafel is rumoured to be the city’s best.

Although tourists will have to pay to see the treasures of the Louvre, smaller museums like Carnvalet, which explores the history of Paris with innovative exhibits, are free and far less crowded.

Tokyo grabbed second place on the list with two bars listed in the World’s Top 100 ranking. The Japanese capital is open to tourists again after a long closure during the pandemic.

While Istanbul took third place on the luxe list, it’s possible to enjoy the city on a budget and it’s even been named one of this year’s best value city breaks.
