Why Fans Thought The Armorer Was a Spy

Chapter 23 titled “The Spies” was a big episode in The Mandalorian Season 3. The title really set off fans as Elia Kane was the only outed spy in the entire episode and was only seen when she handed a report to Moff Gideon. Chapter 23’s title seemed to imply, however, that there was more than one spy other than Elia, and fans immediately started wondering who else is the title referring to. The Mandalorian always keeps audiences on their toes, so it could have been a number of characters in the show. Of course, the most plausible one seemed to be The Armorer.

Bo-Katan rallied the Nite Owls and Children of the Watch to retake the Great Forge of Mandalore. Many other Mandalorians offered to go on this mission like Din Djarin, Paz Vizsla, and The Armorer, to name just a few. This group also met up with more survivors once they reached the planet to storm the Great Forge. When they entered the forge, they were quickly overtaken by Moff Gideon’s forces from a secret Imperial Base. After the episode aired, a theory started circling the Star Wars fandom that The Armorer was actually an Imperial spy during Season 3. While that proved to ultimately not be the case, here’s evidence that made fans believe their theory.

The Armorer and the Mythosaur

Suspicion around The Armorer’s allegiance really started to be questioned around Chapter 21: “The Pirate.” She made sure that the Mandalorians always wore their helmet and would call Din Djarin a traitor for briefly removing his. However, she later ordered Bo-Katan to remove hers, saying she would be the one to unite the Mandalorians and bring both worlds together. It was not until Bo-Katan talked about the Mythosaur that changed how The Armorer felt about the Mandalorian rule she cared so much about. This was also the moment that she insisted the Children of Watch must unite with all Mandalorians instead of being cut off from them in order to take back Mandalore.

The final decisions at the end of the episode were puzzling, but ever since Bo-Katan told The Armorer about finding the Mythosaur, Screen Rant says she had a hard time believing that it was not just a legend. Her decisions continued to become more questionable when she volunteered to take the wounded back to the Mandalorian fleet right before the scouting party was attacked by Moff Gideon. He thanked the party for gathering all the Mandalorians in one place, so he could wipe them out all at once, which continueed to throw suspicion towards The Armorer who had initiated the gathering in the first place.

Ambush at the Great Forge

Several Mandalorians volunteered to go back to Mandalore to meet up with survivors from the planet. These volunteers include Din Djarin, Paz Vizsla, and The Armorer. They were quickly ambushed by Moff Gideon as soon as they entered the Great Forge. Fans are claiming that The Armorer going on this mission was very unlike her, and it became extremely convenient that she went back with the injured survivors just before the ambush began. As soon as the Mandalorians stepped foot inside the Great Forge, they were overtaken by Gideon’s stormtroopers and fell into a trap.

The trap also led to Gideon knowing about the Mandalorian fleet even though the planet was interfering with communication devices. This means that someone on the planet would have had to be communicating with Gideon. The Armorer’s connection to Gideon was also believed to have run deeper due to the fact that he had come into possession of Beskar and well-crafted armor, suggesting that she had been using the Great Forge with the help of Gideon. This could also explain how Gideon’s armor was similar to the Armorer and the Dark Troopers.

Children of the Watch and the Mandalorians

The Armorer is the leader of the Children of the Watch and a stern enforcer of the Creed. When she learned that Din took off his helmet, she went off on him and believed that the Creed must be followed at all times. Recently, as we saw in Season 3, she was less strict as she has welcomed Bo-Katan to the creed after she bathed in the Living Waters and took off her helmet. Fans really started to question The Armorer when she pulled Bo aside and commanded her to take off her helmet. They felt uncomfortable towards the order, especially after her preaching about the Creed for so long.

The Armorer told Bo-Katan that she was the one that could walk between the world of the Mandalorians and the Children of the Watch ideology, and would ultimately unite all Mandalorians. The Armorer even said this in front of the Children of the Watch, who were likely just as confused as the fans. She was trying to bring unity for all Mandalorians, but as Collider said, something felt off. The Creed was presented as such a strong religious belief of the Children of the Watch throughout the past two seasons of The Mandalorian that telling her people to merge it with those who do not believe in it just seemed highly suspicious. The request was odd, and was just one more reason why fans were questioning whether she is a spy.
