Below Deck Sailing Yacht‘s Gary King has been part of the series since it’s second season, and is now being accused of some disturbing behavior. A spin-off of Below Deck, Below Deck Sailing Yacht chronicles the lives of the crew aboard the Parsifal III, a sailing yacht that charters around European waters. With a cast of crew members who live and work together through some of the most high-pressure situations possible, the crew tends to be a tight-knit group which can cause some big drama under the right circumstances. Though some of the crew change from season to season, Gary has been one of the main crew members for years.
According to Reddit, Gary’s recent behavior on Below Deck Sailing Yacht has come off as “creepy” and “aggressive” as he’s persued Daisy Kelliher. While in past seasons, Gary has gotten away with things that may have been somewhat inappropriate due to his charming, lovable demeanor, his actions on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 have been glaring. As one third of a love triangle between himself, Daisy, and Colin MacRae, things have been messy for three close friends this season. After Gary snapped at Daisy and accused her of hooking up with Colin “out of spite”, many realized they were thrown off by the behavior he’s displayed throughout the series.
Why Gary King’s Below Deck Behavior Is Problematic
While Gary seems to be reacting to his feelings towards Daisy not being reciprocated in the most recent season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, it’s clear that his behavior isn’t new and hasn’t been taken seriously in the past. Gary is known as the playboy of the crew, having hooked up with various women throughout the series. According to Reddit user u/leeshykins, this isn’t new behavior. “Count how many times women tell him no in this season’s episodes. He literally ignores them and grabs and kisses them,” they explained. Other users expressed disgust towards Gary’s aggressive behavior, with some feeling he “needs to be fired” for his past actions.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht is just one series in the Below Deck franchise, and none of the shows are immune to boatmances. Crew members on all the Below Deck shows are consistently getting closer, forming relationships, and dealing with interpersonal drama. Still, Gary’s actions have been less-than-appealing and shown off a side of him that viewers can’t ignore. From his manipulation tactics in the way he speaks to Daisy and Colin to the fact that he doesn’t seem to realize that “no” means no, Gary should be pushed to learn from his poor behavior and change before he returns to the series for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5.
Though the allegations against Gary are still speculative, seeing his behavior play out on screen is more than damning enough for viewers to grow wary of the Bravo star. With Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 still airing, things could shift for Gary as the season continues. Still, what has been aired shows him in a poor light, and Gary needs to take accountability for his actions. Understanding that his displays of aggression on Below Deck Sailing Yacht are wrong could be the first step in helping Gary to grow.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
