As of 2023, there have been 16 complete Married at First Sightseasons, and it’s time to talk about the most impressive MAFS installments. The show is widely considered to be one of the most fun social experiments. Based on the Danish series of the same name, each season features several individuals who agree to be matched with partners by relationship experts. While most duos go through the typical dating and engagement stages before tying the knot, these men and women skip all of that. They get married within minutes of meeting.

Understandably, it’s fun to watch the newlyweds figure out how to integrate their lives while getting to know each other. Cameras capture each couple’s honeymoon, and the subsequent six to eight weeks. At the end of that period, viewers watch the fateful Decision Day action unfold onscreen. While over fifty MAFS couples have been paired up between 2014 and 2023, less than half have stayed together past Decision Day. For example, only one couple stayed together from MAFS season 16.
Which MAFSSeasons Are The Best?
MAFS’ popularity has grown, and several popular spinoffs exist, such as Married at First Sight: Couples Cam, Married at First Sight: Happily Ever After, and Married at First Sight: Unmatchables. With over 150 episodes of MAFS, viewers can look forward to future seasons, and re-watch previous installments. Whether someone is new to the MAFS fandom (and looking to see which season to start watching), or a seasoned viewer who wants to take a trip down memory lane, here are some of the best seasons of MAFS, in no particular order.
Married At First Sight Season 1
MAFS owes its current success to its inaugural season, which fans love. In New York and New Jersey, cameras only followed three couples: Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner, Courtney Hendrix and Jason Carrion, and Monet Bell and Vaughn Copeland. Re-watching season 1 is enjoyable due to the matchmaking panel’s advice, which came from a sexologist, sociologist, chaplain, and clinical psychologist. The duos getting to know each other also provide a good mix of fun, entertainment, and drama. Jamie and Doug’s MAFS journey as husband and wife is a sweet throwback, as the two are still together.
Married At First Season 9
This MAFS season is memorable, and the four couples featured in 2019 (Elizabeth Bice and Jamie Thompson, Iris Caldwell and Keith Manley, Amber Bowles, and Matthew Gwynne, and Deonna McNeill and Gregory Okotie) provide serious entertainment to viewers. Before these matches met at the altar, fans were intrigued by the announcement that Dr. Jessica Griffin would be replaced after starting a relationship with season 6’s Jon Francetic.
These North Carolinians made an impression. There were pivotal scenes, from Elizabeth and Jamie’s arguments to Iris’ conversations about virginity with MAFS’ Keith. Although MAFS season 9 ends on a somewhat predictable note, most of this cast has made an impression on viewers.
Married At First Sight Season 5
MAFS season 5, set in Chicago, is remembered for having a solid mix of fights, humorous quotes, and genuine connections. Danielle DeGroot and Cody Knapek, Sheila Downs and Nate Duhon, and Ashley Petta and Anthony D’Amico agreed to stay married on Decision Day. While Ashley and Anthony are one of the fans’ favorite relationships across the franchise, Sheila and Nate stole the show with their defensive arguments. These couples make surprising decisions from the first episode to the last, which helps to solidify the Windy City as one of the best MAFS locations.
Married At First Sight Season 8
MAFS season 8 introduced fans to four Philadelphia newlyweds: Stephanie Sersen and AJ Vollmoeller, Jasmine McGriff and Will Guess, Kate Sisk and Luke Cuccurullo, and Kristine Killingsworth and Keith Dewar. While some couples, including Kristine and Keith, were celebrated, Kate and Luke’s relationship (particularly Luke’s comments towards his new wife) were not appreciated. Half of the cast was given a warm reception, while the other half was regarded as villains, meaning that this 2019 season has a little something for everyone. The reunion episodes were also a memorable ride.
Married At First Sight Season 10
Set in the suburbs of Washington D.C., MAFS season 10 has the distinction of claiming many “firsts.” Not only is season 10 the only edition to be filmed in areas surrounding the capital, but it’s the first time five couples were matched: Katie Conrad and Derek Sherman, Jessica Studer and Austin Hurd, Taylor Dunklin, and Brandon Reid, Meka Jones and Michael Watson, and Mindy Shiben and Zach Justice. With this season concluding with two annulments, viewers have trouble keeping up with the drama. From arrests and restraining orders to petty arguments, season 10 has some of the worst matches in the franchise.
Married At First Sight Season 11
Set in New Orleans, MAFS season 11 aired after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Viewers liked watching Amelia Fatsi and Bennett Kirschner, Olivia Cornu and Brett Lindsey, Karen Landry, and Miles Williams, Amani Smith and Woody Randall, and Christina Croce and Henry Rodriguez. Considered some of the most compatible matches, season 11 boasts enough drama to keep the show moving, but not so much that it overshadows the marriages. Miles and Woody being best friends before applying only adds to the entertainment. With meaningful discussions throughout the episodes, New Orleans became an excellent filming location.
After years of successful (and unsuccessful) matchmaking, MAFS is now up through season 16. While a release date hasn’t been announced, MAFS season 17 will allegedly take place in Denver. Until new episodes air, there are plenty of old episodes to rewatch and enjoy.
