India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.21% By Investing.com

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the gained 0.21%, while the index added 0.16%.

The best performers of the session on the were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:), which rose 3.39% or 12.20 points to trade at 371.65 at the close. Meanwhile, HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:) added 2.69% or 29.90 points to end at 1,139.65 and Infosys Ltd (NS:) was up 2.05% or 26.00 points to 1,291.95 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:), which fell 1.29% or 3.15 points to trade at 241.75 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:) declined 0.98% or 23.05 points to end at 2,339.95 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:) was down 0.96% or 9.30 points to 959.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:) which rose 2.58% to 1,139.00, Infosys Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.05% to settle at 1,291.90 and NTPC Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.64% to close at 185.70.

The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which was down 1.25% to 241.70 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) which lost 1.04% to settle at 2,339.40 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.82% to 2,853.20 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1160 to 808 and 70 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2063 rose and 1528 declined, while 129 ended unchanged.

Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:) rose to 5-year highs; up 1.64% or 3.00 to 185.70.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.12% to 11.24.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.14% or 2.85 to $1,980.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.31% or 1.62 to hit $68.55 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 1.49 to trade at $73.30 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.02% to 82.43, while EUR/INR rose 0.23% to 88.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 102.93.
