With a time of 28.81 seconds when accelerating to 249 mph and then coming to a complete halt, the Koenigsegg Regera retakes its record which it set in 2019. The Swedish carmaker bests the previous record of 29.94 seconds set by the Rimac Nevera just last month and its own 2019 record of 31.49 seconds when it went from 0-249-0 mph.
The record was set at the Örebro Airport, which is located about 50 miles west of Stockholm, in which the hypercar accelerated from 0-249 mph in just 20.68 seconds and then decelerated to zero in 8.13 seconds. Just as impressive as its acceleration to 249 mph, its deceleration shows the excellence in its braking abilities.
Powered by a twin-turbocharged V-8 and three electric motors, the hypercar pumps out 1,500 hp and makes use of its groundbreaking technology and the cornerstone is the Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) propulsion system. This technology allows the engine to be directly connected to the rear axle without transmission. Furthermore, there is electric assistance for its braking, similar to the mechanism used by today’s F1 cars.
Along with the KDD propulsion system, Koenigsegg’s use of Michelin’s new Cup 2R tires was the simple upgrade that helped increase the car’s acceleration to break the world record.
First launched with a limited run of 80 cars at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015, the first cars were delivered in 2018.
