Never Have I Ever season 4 premieres on June 8, and fans will finally see the culmination of Devi Vishwakumar’s (played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) growth as she makes her way through senior year. The series began in 2020, following Devi’s awkward attempt to seduce teenager the most popular guy at Sherman Oaks High School, Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet), while flirting with her frienemy Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison).
But as much as Never Have I Ever centers romance, with season 4 even introducing another option in Ethan (Michael Cimino), the heart of the show has always been friendship and family. Lee Rodriguez and Ramona Young play Fabiola and Eleanor respectively, Devi’s best friends who have seen her through the ups and downs of life. In season 4, the girls face new obstacles as senior year puts pressure on them to decide their futures — all while crushes and career opportunities threaten to cloud their present.
Screen Rant spoke to Rodriguez and Young about their favorite offscreen memories from their time on Never Have I Ever season 4, as well as how Fabiola and Eleanor face their senior year. As a bonus, the actors try to decide which lucky guy they would pick as Devi’s endgame.
Lee Rodriguez & Ramona Young Say Farewell to Never Have I Ever
Screen Rant: Ramona, I adore Eleanor and Trent, but it seems they hit a snag this season. What is the emotional fallout of that?
Ramona Young: Oh, gosh. It’s like a rollercoaster; it doesn’t go well. She hits a few walls, but everything comes back together full circle.
Lee, robotics leads Fabiola down an unusual college path. How does she handle that?
Lee Rodriguez: Her college experience was very rocky. She ran into some trouble there with one of her best pals. Didn’t really handle the situation well; handled it in Fabiola style. But as friends do, they fight, and they make up.
Ramona Young: That sounded like spoken word poetry.
Speaking of that beautiful friendship, we have gone on a wonderful journey with the three of you over the course of these four years. What have been some of your favorite moments together?
Ramona Young: Gosh, some of my favorite moments are just hanging out after work or in between work. During season 4, Maitreyi got a convertible Mustang. And at night, we just drove around the lot, and it was so scary. She had the top down.
Lee Rodriguez: I was pretty scared.
Ramona Young: And it was trouble, but it was good. Good trouble.
Eleanor’s pursuit of acting is another very big part of her journey. If you could give her advice, what would it be?
Ramona Young: That girl should be giving me advice! She’s doing great. Yeah, she’s in high school; she’s just fine.
Gears is perhaps Fabiola’s crowning achievement thus far, but he has gone through a few personality changes. If you were the programmer, what would you give him as either skills or traits?
Lee Rodriguez: Oh, I would make Gears be able to sing my favorite song. I feel like that shouldn’t be too hard. I want Drake to be singing a Miley Cyrus song…
Finally, before the truth is out and we all know who Devi ends up with, who would you want her to end up with?
Ramona Young: Without knowing what happens…
Lee Rodriguez: I don’t know what happens.
Ramona Young: We don’t know. We have no idea. I want Devi to end up with whoever makes her feel at peace.
Who do you think makes her feel at peace?
Ramona Young: [Laughs] I don’t know, we’ll see. Ethan.
Lee Rodriguez: I was going to say Ethan.
Ramona Young: It’s Ethan.
Lee Rodriguez: Exactly.
