Manifest Finally Explains Why The Passengers Disappeared On Flight 828

Warning: Spoilers for Manifest season 4 part 2

The real reason why Flight 828 disappeared into the storm in 2013 on Manifest has finally been revealed. The passengers have understood since Manifest season 4 part 1’s ending that their journey is directly linked to the apocalypse. However, why it was them who were set on this path stayed a mystery.

Why the specific people featured in Manifest are the focus of the show’s central phenomenon has always been a subject of great speculation in the series. In the cases of characters like Ben, it may have been easy to assume that their moral compasses were why they were chosen to fulfill the divine consciousness’ goals. What hurt the logic behind this idea was the fact that not all passengers had the potential to be heroes. After all, Angelina was among them, and she hardly felt like someone God would choose to save the world.

God Picked Flight 828 At Random

According to Manifest season 4 part 2, there was no great, divine plan behind the individual characters chosen to disappear in 2013. Instead, it seems the choices were actually random in nature. When Cal asked why this didn’t happen to any other flight in the penultimate episode, Michaela suggested that in there was actually nothing special about them. She said that the passengers of Flight 828 were just a “bunch of random people, some good, some bad.” As Saanvi elaborated, they were a “statistical sample for a divine experiment.” Their theories provide a working explanation for the passengers’ role in the story.

Michaela went on to say that the Callings never forced them to do anything, which acknowledges an important detail about their mission to stop the apocalypse. After all, it is true that God never directly told them what to do. What this indicates is that the passengers weren’t necessarily meant to stop the end of the world from coming to pass. If that was the plan from the start, God wouldn’t have set it in motion in the first place. Rather, God simply gave them an opportunity to stop it. Whether they pulled it off or not was entirely up to them.

The Passengers’ Purpose Was To Decide If Humanity Deserved To Live

Manifest Season 4 Part 2 Ben

As a “statistical sample” that combined the good and the bad, the Flight 828 passengers were in an excellent position to determine the fate of humanity. Had God picked all the best people in the world and put them on the plane, the passengers wouldn’t have been a true representation of the human race. But by selecting a completely random group of people, God was able to make Manifest’s divine experiment” work. If they didn’t pass judgment, that would signal to God that civilization didn’t need to continue. By preserving through their hardships, following the Callings, and performing acts of kindness and forgiveness, the passengers succeeded in proving to God that humanity truly did deserve to live.
