Manifest Star Shares Ideas For Future Stories

Manifest star Josh Dallas shares ideas for the show’s future, addressing the potential for sequels and spinoffs. Returning to Netflix for its last batch of episodes on June 2, the second half of Manifest‘s final season has a lot of lingering questions to address. Dallas’ character, Ben Stone, is at the center of the story as he’s preparing to say goodbye to a role he’s played since 2018. Even as Manifest‘s cast of characters is signing off, there is some possibility in the future.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dallas spoke optimistically about the future of the sci-fi drama. Asked whether a sequel or reboot is possible, the actor says that there is and even shares some ideas for what that could look like by mentioning a follow-up project that could be set in the future. Read his full quote is below:

“I think there’s major sequel or spinoff potential here. Maybe we go into the future and see Eden [his character’s daughter] at 21 or so as she’s navigating the world, or we follow the younger passengers. Maybe we go back to 2013 and deep dive into the investigation with [NSA director] Vance.”

A Manifest Spinoff Would Have To Maintain The Show’s Mystery

The ideas that Dallas mentions would take the approach of deepening a character through flashbacks or flashforwards, a storytelling device that worked well for Lost. But given its premise of a commercial airliner’s passengers and crew reappearing after being presumed dead for five years, there’s an argument that any Manifest sequel or reboot should prioritize finding a way to continue the mystery rather than focusing on just a character’s history. While the show’s ensemble is crucial to its success, the sci-fi and unexplained aspects have always been part of the show’s core.

That also leaves Manifest season 4, part 2 in a unique position. The final episodes could potentially open some space for a spinoff or sequel. But the main priority is to finish the saga in a satisfying way, especially after Manifest has had such a remarkable run. It was cancelled by NBC in 2021 and ultimately saved by Netflix due to the strength of its performance on the streaming service.

The performance of Manifest‘s last episodes is likely the determining factor for any possibilities of spinoffs and sequels, essentially growing the series into a franchise. If it’s the case that the show boasts strong viewership and leads Netflix’s charts for weeks, that could make the talk of follow-ups and spinoffs far more likely.
