A theory surrounding the story for a potential Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 could make the show vital to Lucasfilm’s future cinematic plans. While giving more context to the characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, the Disney+ show was relatively self-contained in regard to its broader story connections. Other than fleshing out two important Skywalker Saga characters, the show was a more independent story than the likes of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka which are building to a cinematic event.
However, a theory surrounding the potential story for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 – should the show be picked up for a second outing – could tie the show into another of Lucasfilm’s future projects. While Obi-Wan Kenobi certainly works as a standalone adventure, tying it into what could possibly be Lucasfilm’s biggest upcoming project would be fitting for one of Star Wars‘ most iconic characters. The project in question is James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie, which could link to Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2’s potential story in big ways.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2’s Potential Story Would Link To The Clone Wars
One of the main reasons why Obi-Wan Kenobi has not been renewed for a season 2 as of yet is because the show told a complete story. However, one of the more exciting aspects of the Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 finale could tie the potential second season to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and by extension, Mangold’s Star Wars film. The ending of Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 6 saw the titular Jedi finally connect with his master Qui-Gon Jinn’s Force ghost, something many fans theorized about prior to the show’s air date.
Through Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s potential season 2 story becomes clear. The show could tell the story of Qui-Gon guiding Kenobi through the process of becoming one with the Force that was outlined by Yoda’s arc in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. If this was the case, the mysterious priestesses of the Force would be introduced to live-action Star Wars. Through these priestesses, Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 could link to James Mangold’s film.
James Mangold’s Dawn Of The Jedi Will Deal With The Origins Of The Force
The core concept of Mangold’s film is to explore the origins of the Force or at least the Jedi’s connection to it. The priestesses from The Clone Wars could certainly play a role in this film as a result, due to their mysterious origins and connection to the Force itself. Mangold exploring the beginning of the Force and the Jedi Order could lead to many different things being included in the movie. Despite its place in the timeline, Mangold’s film will surely link to concepts of the Force from George Lucas himself, many of which are found in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon’s Journey Could Set Up Mangold’s Movie
If Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 did detail this journey with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, Mangold’s movie could be set up by the show. Introducing high-concept elements that will likely be found in Mangold’s movie with little to no setup could be jarring, meaning Obi-Wan Kenobi can be vital to foreshadowing the film. If Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 does include the priestesses from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, they could be included in Mangold’s film to explore the Force’s origin, making Obi-Wan Kenobi even more vital as a part of the Star Wars saga.
