On the heels of international football sensation Zlatan Ibrahimović retiring, Ted Lasso took to social media to honor both the Swedish star and Zava’s giant avocado. The popular Apple TV+ comedy seemingly concluded its three-season run in May, bringing an emotional close to Jason Sudeikis’ affable American coach. Ted Lasso season 3 introduced audiences to AFC Richmond’s newest member, Zava (Maximilian Osinski), a self-centered yet extremely talented striker. Although the player provided the struggling team with much-needed goals, Zava’s egotistical nature could not provide AFC Richmond with the proper morale boost needed to take the Premier League title.
Ted Lasso‘s official AFC Richmond Twitter account responded to the Premier League’s post applauding Ibrahimović’s career by honoring Zava’s gigantic avocado.
As Ibrahimović inspired the character of Zava, the comment is in reference to Zava’s gift to the team prior to their key match against West Ham United. With Zava enjoying retirement on his farm, he sends AFC Richmond a box of t-shirts and a single avocado. Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) initially scoffs at the gift, but soon stands in awe along with his team at the enormous size of the fruit.
What’s Next For Ted Lasso?
Ted Lasso season 3 so far marks the end of the titular character’s emotional fish-out-of-water journey as an American head coach of a Premier League team. Although Sudeikis seemingly confirmed the show’s conclusion in the past, star and co-creator Brendan Hunt’s recent comments have left the door wide open for a sequel series or spinoffs. When asked about the future of the Ted Lasso series, the Coach Beard actor stated, “Nothing has been ruled out, everything is possible…“
Many of Ted Lasso‘s stars have entertained spinoff shows centered around their characters. Dunster has expressed interest in continuing Tartt’s rise as England’s next top goalscorer, and Hannah Waddingham admitted she wants to play her character Rebecca Welton for several more years. Ted Lasso‘s fanbase has also called for several spinoffs regarding AFC Richmond breakout star Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh) and model-turned-entrepreneur Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), as their careers are only beginning.
Continuing Ted Lasso as a workplace comedy centered on the management of AFC Richmond may be Apple’s safest approach going forward. With Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) taking over managerial duties following Ted’s departure, his partnership with Coach Beard and Nate Shelley (Nick Mohammed) sets the show up with a premise that could have staying power. With Ted Lasso only just completed and the Writers Guild of America strike still ongoing, audiences will have to be patient for any news regarding the next chapter in the popular series.
