With Justified: City Primeval coming to FX and Hulu on July 18, series star Timothy Olyphant is already addressing the potential future of the show. As it stands, it’s unclear if the revival will be a one-off limited series or if City Primeval could get a continuation. In any case, Olyphant is making it clear that he’d be on board to return if the revival series is a hit with viewers and the demand is there to make new seasons of Justified. The actor said as much at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas on Thursday.
“I’d show up,” Olyphant told fans about possibly doing more, per Variety. “I had a good time. Every time we’ve done this I’ve had a good time.”
Executive producer Sarah Timberman added, “If he shows up, I show up, we all show up.”
Writers Dave Andron, Michael Dinner, and Graham Yost did not participate, due to the ongoing writers strike. However, they did provide a statement that was read byTimberman that addressed their absence while expressing how happy they were to have worked on Justified: City Primeval.
“City Primeval was a work of love,” the statement reads. “We got to play in Elmore Leonard’s universe again. But because of the standoff in negotiations between the WGA and the AMPTP, we cannot be with you to honor the actors and collaborators who are dance partners. We are members and supporters of the WGA. The members deserve a new contract and a fair deal, as do the members of the DGA and SAG-AFTRA. We look forward to the near future when these issues will be resolved.”
Olyphant then said, “I hope those f***ers get everything they’re asking for. They deserve it. None of this exists without writers.”
Timothy Olyphant Is Back in Justified: City Primeval
Justified: City Primeval was developed as an eight-part limited series, though given the comments from those involved, the show could potentially go on if the revival is just as popular and well-received as the original Justified. Of course, it certainly helps having Olyphant returning as Raylan Givens, and there does seem to be a lot of excitement for the revival series from Justified fans.
The official descripition of Justified: City Primeval is as follows:
“A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell’s lawyer, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder, has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught in between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well. These three characters set out on a collision course in classic Elmore Leonard fashion, to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive.”
Justified: City Primeval will premiere on FX on July 18. The show will also be available to stream on Hulu.
