Apple has brought out the release candidate builds of iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6, with developers given a last test of the builds ahead of a formal release.
Apple doesn’t provide details of what to find within the builds, making them more a performance and bug fix release than one with features. It is simultaneously beta-testing its milestone releases, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, which are full of features and due this fall.
AppleInsider and Apple strongly suggest users don’t install beta operating systems or other beta software on “mission-critical” or primary devices, as there is the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should instead use secondary or non-essential hardware and ensure they have sufficient backups of their critical data at all times.
