Dracula is ready to terrify the world once again in new images from Last Voyage of the Demeter, the upcoming Universal Pictures horror movie based on the character created by Bram Stoker.
Although the studio’s attempt to build an MCU-like franchise with its monsters has failed, that doesn’t mean they can’t keep trying to bring new projects related to those famous characters. After the unexpected success achieved with The Invisible Man, Last Voyage of the Demeter is bringing the Prince of Darkness back to the screen with a movie that promises a terrifying adventure, as the new images anticipate:
Check out the official synopsis and trailer for the film:
“Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew.”
Last Voyage of the Demeter stars Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, Nikolai Nikolaeff, and Javier Botet. Directed by André Øvredal (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), the film is set to hit theaters on August 11th.
Nicolas Cage Could Return as Dracula
It seems like Nicolas Cage’s journey as Dracula may not be over. Although Renfield was not a particularly overwhelming success, the movie was well enough received for Universal Pictures to be considering doing a sequel, which would mean that the acclaimed actor could play the Prince of Darkness once again.
Earlier this month, director Chris McKay spoke on the chances of the popular comedy starring Cage and Nicholas Hoult getting a sequel, which would further explore the world of vampires and would give the studio the chance to introduce another famous character within Dracula’s mythology.
In fact, it seems like Dracula was destined for Cage, as the actor almost played the character way before getting involved into Renfield. A few weeks ago, director James Wan revealed that when he was developing an adaptation of Castlevania, he had a few conversations with the actor to play the famous vampire in the film, but the project never took off.
Nicholas Hoult also seems destined to be connected to the character. After playing Dracula’s assistant in Renfield, he’ll be part of the cast of the upcoming Nosferatu remake playing Thomas Hutter. Robert Eggers is bringing the classic German horror film back to the screen with Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd playing Count Orlok, Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Friedrich Harding, Emma Corrin as Anna Harding, Willem Dafoe as Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz, Simon McBurney as Herr Knock, and Ralph Ineson as Dr. Wilhelm Sievers.
Nosferatu is a gothic horror tale that follows the story of a young woman haunted by a terrifying creature of the night who’s obsessed with her, set in 19th century Germany. The new version is set to debut in theaters next year.
