For many players, one of the most fun parts of playing a Pokémon video game is the chance to collect them all, including finding all the special Shiny variants of many of the Pokémon. Seeking out these rare pocket monsters with alternate colors that are unique from the norm can be engaging, and some of these Shinies can be incredibly challenging to come across in many of the games. They offer no stat boosts or changes compared to their normal varieties, but the extreme rareness of finding them makes them treasured by trainers.
Recently, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet received patches to make hunting for Shiny Pokémon even more difficult. Meanwhile, Pokémon GO has added more community days with high odds of catching specific Pokémon characters in their Shiny forms, but players often feel they should purchase a ticket for the events with real money. Now, a new game that is due to be released soon could be changing up the rules for Shiny Pokémon hunting even more, by not only making it difficult to find these alternate rare styles but also taking much of the control out of the hands of the players.
Pokémon Sleep Will Have Shiny Pokémon
Pokémon Sleep is releasing in late July 2023 and will allow players to track their sleep patterns and collect fun pocket monsters at the same time. The Pokémon Sleep app is currently being beta tested in Argentina, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand where some lucky players have been able to try out the app for themselves.
Recently, Joe Merrick, the webmaster of the Pokémon compendium website Serebii.net, tweeted that there are Shiny Pokémon found in the app. Though no specifics were disclosed on how difficult it is to get a Shiny, or what characters have Shiny variants in the app, this does mean that Shiny hunters could be getting much more sleep in the near future.
How Shiny Hunting Could Work In Pokémon Sleep
Details have not been given on how players will find Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Sleep, but a recent video released by The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel gave more information on how to use the app. During the daytime, players will want to feed their Snorlax to make it become more powerful, and then track their sleep using the app at night. A combination of Snorlax’s strength and the player’s sleep style will lead to different amounts and types of Pokémon congregating around Snorlax the next morning for players to catch.
Theoretically, it appears that the more attention Snorlax gets during the day and the better sleep players have at night, will lead to more chances of finding rare sleep styles and, hopefully, Shiny Pokémon. Currently, there is no official release date for Pokémon Sleep beyong a late July window, which could be timed well with Pokémon GO‘s Catching Some Z’s event that begins on July 15. Pokémon Sleep will then not only help trainers measure their sleep data but hopefully catch some Shinies at the same time.
