Hiking spot in Tenerife is among the ‘most beautiful’ on the island | Travel News | Travel

Costa Adeje, Tenerife was once an overlooked fishing village lined with enticing beaches and has since become a popular spot with tourists.

Now known for its golden shores and clear blue waters that lead into the Atlantic, the town is a worthy destination for a summer break thanks to its reliable climate.

The destination can be found on the southern coast of Tenerife, pitted against the natural beauty of the varied landscape.

Despite its growth into a popular resort town, the “ritzy” spot, as coined by Tripadvisor, is also home to one of the most famous outdoor attractions on the island.

Just next to Costa Adeje town is the Barranco del Infierno, described as “a magnificent unspoilt sight that any nature and adventure lover should visit”, by the team at Go Tenerife.

Despite translating to “Hell’s Gorge”, the trail is one of the most beautiful natural settings in Tenerife, with a ravine that fortunately does not match its name.

A travel guide at Go Tenerife claimed: “The Barranco del Infierno is shaped by 2000 hectares of fairy-tale landscapes and postcard images.

“This marvellous landscape of steep landscapes has been sculpted over seven million years and can now be explored via various hiking trails.

“In the past, the paths on the ravine were mainly used by shepherds to take their goats up to graze in the area. Today, it receives thousands of visitors annually.”

One of the most popular routes taken by hikers is a 6.5km long circular trail which starts and ends in Calle de los Molinos.

The journey takes two to three hours and allows visitors to explore the various water courses, small creeks and waterfalls which pass through Barranco del Infierno

Through the journey, hikers will find several viewpoints to admire the beauty of the landscape along with frequent sightings of various birds of prey.

A plethora of caves and Tenerife’s highest waterfall can also be spotted along the way. The travel guide explained: “Water flows inland on the island are a rare sight, which makes this waterfall all the more special.”

According to online travel agent loveholidays, the Costa Adeje region is one of the most popular hiking-holiday destinations among Britons.

New data gathered by the agent found that the spot in the Canary Islands has 313 hikes within a three-mile radius of each other, 190 of which are considered “easy”.
