Summary
- There are already plans set for The Lincoln Lawyer to continue through season 4 if it is renewed.
- The Lincoln Lawyer could potentially continue beyond season 4 as well.
- There are plenty of Mickey Haller novels for the series to potentially adapt.
The Lincoln Lawyer could potentially continue into season 4 and beyond. The legal drama series, which premiered on Netflix in 2022, stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as lawyer Mickey Haller, who works out of the back of his Lincoln Navigator. The show is adapted from the Michael Connelly book series that began with 2005’s The Lincoln Lawyer, introducing Haller as a half-brother to Connelly’s other popular character Harry Bosch (who was recently featured on the seven-season Prime Video series Bosch, which began in 2014).
TV Insider recently sat down with co-creator Ted Humphrey to discuss the The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 finale, which premiered on Netflix on August 3. During their conversation, he shared the fact that they “have a plan through four seasons so far.” While season 3 has not yet been officially greenlit, if the show reaches season 4, he also teased “plans for more than that.” Read his full quote below:
We do have a plan through four seasons so far, and we have plans for more than that if we are so fortunate to be able to continue to do the show. We have plans for more than that, but we particularly have the next two seasons planned out that hopefully we’ll get a chance to do, and we know what books those will be based on.
The Lincoln Lawyer Has Plenty Of Story To Work With
So far, The Lincoln Lawyer has adapted one book per season. Season 1 covered the events of the second book, 2008’s The Brass Verdict, while season 2 was based on the fourth book, 2011’s The Fifth Witness. Although Humphrey didn’t reveal what book season 4 might be based on, he did share that The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 would adapt 2013’s The Gods of Guilt.
At the time of writing, Connelly has published three other novels that could potentially be adapted into new seasons. This includes 2020’s The Law of Innocence, 2010’s The Reversal, and the original The Lincoln Lawyer, which was previously adapted into a movie starring Matthew McConaughey in 2011. There will also be a seventh book in the series titled Resurrection Walk published this November.
Considering the fact that Connelly is still writing Mickey Haller books, there could very well be an eighth novel in the series by the time The Lincoln Lawyer catches up to him. This gives the show plenty of runway to continue beyond season 4. If it becomes popular enough to continue even longer than that, it could eventually split away from the source novels, but for the time being there is more than enough material to contend with.
