Power Rangers Is Bringing Back Its Most OP Red Ranger 1 Year After Introducing It

Summary

  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury brings back Zayto’s Ghost Ranger form from Dino Fury.
  • Dino Fury’s cast is the only set of Rangers to have starred in three consecutive Power Rangers seasons, including the upcoming Cosmic Fury.
  • Zayto’s Ghost Ranger form makes him one of the strongest Red Rangers, as he was brought back by the Morphin Masters and seemly became part of the Morphin Grid itself.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, Power Rangers‘ upcoming series, is bringing back one of the saga’s most powerful Red Rangers one year after introducing it. Cosmic Fury is a direct continuation of Power Rangers Dino Fury and will serve as Power Rangers‘ 30th season. Between David Yost’s return as Billy and Lord Zedd as the main villain, Cosmic Fury is set to bring Power Rangers full circle 30 years after Mighty Morphin. While Cosmic Fury will introduce new powers and Zords, it will revisit a cool new Red Ranger form that only appeared for a few seconds in Dino Fury.

Cosmic Fury will see the return of the Power Rangers Dino Fury team, which has now broken an incredible Mighty Morphin record. Dino Fury’s cast is the only set of Rangers to have starred in three consecutive Power Rangers seasons, going from Dino Fury season 1 to Cosmic Fury. As such, concepts and storylines from Dino Fury were expected to return in the new series. This includes the Ghost Red Ranger, who, despite the brief appearance in Dino Fury, is already among Power Rangers’ strongest Red Rangers.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Brings Back Zayto’s Ghost Ranger Form

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s intro confirms that Zayto’s Ghost Ranger will return for the new series. Dino Fury season 2’s finale introduced Zayto’s new Red Ranger form, which has since become known as “Ghost Ranger” or “Ghost Red Ranger.” The Ghost Ranger form was based on Dino Fury’s standard Red Ranger costume, which by itself came from Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger. However, Cosmic Fury was set to be based on a different Super Sentai entirely, Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. As such, whether Dino Fury’s Ghost Ranger was going to return in Cosmic Fury remained to be seen.

Shortly after Dino Fury ended, Power Rangers confirmed that Cosmic Fury would not use the Kyuranger suits. Instead, Cosmic Fury’s suits are created for the show and do not come from any Super Sentai series. This is the first time that a Power Rangers TV show will have original costumes for all of the Rangers. With Cosmic Fury introducing new suits, it seemed like Power Rangers was going to ignore its new Red Ranger form to introduce new costumes. Fortunately, this is not the case. The Cosmic Fury intro confirms that the Ghost Red Ranger will return in some capacity.

Power Rangers Dino Fury’s Ghost Red Ranger Explained

Zayto’s “Ghost Ranger” Form (Power Rangers Dino Fury)

Power Rangers Dino Fury’s Red Ranger Zayto died at the end of season 2. Zayto sacrificed himself in Dino Fury‘s finale to defeat Void Queen, who had accumulated the power of every monster Sporix the Power Rangers had faced. Void Queen entered the giant Nemesis Beast monster and had enough power to destroy the entire world. Not even the combined forces of three Dino Fury Megazords were enough to take down Void Queen, who by that point had become one of the most powerful Power Ranger villains to date. To defeat Void Queen, Red Ranger Zayto had to use the deadly Dino Master Saber.

Dino Fury’s Dino Master Saber is an extremely powerful Power Rangers weapon, and it was given to the Rangers by the Green Morphin Master. However, the Dino Master Saber’s power is such that the person who uses it dies. The Dino Master Saber was a last-resource weapon that the Rangers were not even supposed to have access to. Zayto used this special blade to channel the power of every Dino Fury Zord into one attack. With one swing of the Dino Master Saber, now powered by the energy of dozens of Zords, Zayto destroyed the Nemesis Beast. The Red Ranger died in the process.

Zayto’s death in Dino Fury was among the darkest Power Rangers moments. However, toward the end of Dino Fury season 2, Zayto returned from the dead with a different costume. The Power Rangers could only describe Zayto as a “ghost,” hence the “Ghost Red Ranger” title. Not even Zayto was sure of how he was brought back, although he knew that the Morphin Masters were involved. The Dino Fury Ghost Ranger combines the classic Red Ranger suit with a white cape that is tied to a shoulder guard. Most of the Ghost Ranger’s costume suit is white, although the symbol in the middle of the chest is red.

How Strong Zayto’s Ghost Ranger Is Compared To Power Rangers’ Red Rangers

Zeo Red Ranger Tommy, Dino Fury Red Ranger Zayto, and Mighty Morphin Red Ranger Jason in Power Rangers

After Zayto died, the Morphin Masters told the Rangers that their friend had become part of the Morphin Grid. The Morphin Grid is what ties every Power Rangers team together, a special type of energy that exists in the entire universe and in every universe. When a team of Power Rangers morph, they are harnessing the power of the Morphin Grid. As such, Power Rangers’ Morphin Masters are essentially all-powerful beings that can interfere with past, present, and future events in all of the multiverse. When Zayto returned at the end of the season, he claimed the Morphin Masters gave him “new powers.”

Zayto became “one with the Morphin Grid” and then received new powers from the Morphin Masters themselves. In terms of Power Rangers’ lore, this should make the Ghost Ranger one of the strongest Red Rangers in all of the franchise. It must be noticed that Power Rangers’ power levels are not always consistent, and that the saga often encounters some retcons. Even still, it is difficult to think of any other Power Rangers’ Red Ranger in the TV canon that could tap into that much power. Perhaps the only other example is Zeo Ranger V Red Tommy, whose energy came from the absurdly powerful Zeo crystal.

Why Cosmic Fury’s New Red Ranger Form Won’t Last Long

The Zenith Ranger and the Power Rangers Cosmic Fury cast

As cool as it is to see the Ghost Red Ranger from Dino Fury’s finale back for Cosmic Fury, this updated Ranger form will not last long. All of the Dino Fury Power Rangers will get new costumes in Cosmic Fury, including Zayto. In fact, Zayto will no longer be the Red Ranger in Dino Fury. Instead, Dino Fury’s Pink Ranger Amelia will be the Red Ranger in Cosmic Fury. Zayto will continue to be part of the team, now as the Zenith Ranger. Not much is known about Cosmic Fury’s Zenith Ranger, but his design matches that of the Ghost Ranger.

The above post from Power Rangers offers a better look at the Cosmic Fury suits. Zayto’s new powers will likely make him as strong as he was at the end of the Dino Fury, if not stronger. Zayto will continue to have a cape in Cosmic Fury, now in the “champagne” color rather than white. Why Amelia will become the Red Ranger in Cosmic Fury, and why Zayto will go from Red to Zenith, remains to be seen. Amelia was at the center of Dino Fury season 2, especially in the final episodes, which is why having her as the new Red Ranger and team leader is not too surprising.

Still, this raises the question of what role Zayto will play in Cosmic Fury. One popular theory is that Zayto is now sort of a Morphin Master himself, which is why he will no longer be the Red Ranger and the team’s leader. Morphin Masters are not supposed to directly interfere in the human world, which could explain why Zayto will step down as the Red Ranger. Another option is that Zayto finds a different source of power and embarks on a solo adventure, leaving the new Red Ranger Amelia in charge of the team in the upcoming Power Rangers series as he becomes the Zenith Ranger.
