Who Is Agent Vasquez In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2? Hemky Madera’s FBI Character Explained

WARNING! This article contains spoilers for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2!

Summary

  • FBI Agent Vasquez becomes a key player in the Lisa Trammell trial in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2.
  • Agent Vasquez provides Mickey with a letter implicating Alex Grant in an FBI investigation, but his plan backfires when Mickey uses it to make Grant plead the Fifth Amendment.
  • Agent Vasquez’s potential return in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 would connect to Alex Grant’s ambiguous ending, and he is likely to serve as the representative of the FBI in the series.

Before quickly departing from the series, The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 introduces FBI Agent Felix Vasquez as an important player in the Lisa Trammell trial. Played in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2’s cast by Queen of the South actor Hemky Madera, Agent Vasquez makes his debut amid Mickey’s heist-like bid to keep Alex Grant from testifying in the trial about Mitchell Bondurant’s murder. While Mickey getting the FBI involved works out in his favor for the trial, he ends up on the wrong foot with Madera’s Agent Vasquez, which could mean trouble between Mickey and the government authorities in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3.

Agent Vasquez first appears in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, episode 7, where he is called by Andrea Freeman to testify on behalf of the prosecution. Vasquez being called to the stand is Andy’s tactic to imply that construction businessman Alex Grant, another potential subject in Mitchell Bondurant’s murder, isn’t under formal investigation by the FBI. However, the titular Lincoln Lawyer is able to use the FBI agent’s role to his advantage, especially after a mysterious letter addressed to Alex Grant winds up on his doorstep. Vasquez and Mickey begin their dynamic as potential allies, but Mickey’s real intentions for making Alex Grant plead the Fifth Amendment conclude with the FBI agent vaguely threatening the lawyer.

Hemky Madera’s FBI Agent Felix Vasquez Leaks Information To Mickey In Order To Take Down Alex Grant

Although Vasquez testifies on the stand that the FBI isn’t actively investigating Alex Grant, Mickey obtained conflicting information shortly before trial. Mickey suspiciously received a letter addressed to Alex Grant stating that he was a person of interest in an FBI investigation for construction fraud, though he was unsure who left this crucial information at his door. Vasquez testifies that the FBI can’t comment on a potential ongoing investigation, indirectly confirming that Grant will be investigated. As it turns out, Agent Vasquez was the one who gave Mickey the letter to force his hand in the trial, hoping that making Grant testify would unearth critical information about their own “potential” investigation.

However, Vasquez’s plan when leaking the letter to Mickey backfired, as the lawyer didn’t intend to get information about construction fraud during his questioning. Rather, Mickey wanted Alex to plead the Fifth in order to make him appear more suspicious and reiterate his mob ties without anyone being able to ask follow-up questions. With Alex Grant pleading the Fifth, cutting his testimony short, and leaving the FBI without any new damning evidence from the trial, Agent Vasquez’s last appearance in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 sees him threaten Mickey by saying the FBI wouldn’t forget his slight against them.

The Lincoln Lawyer’s Alex Grant Ending Sets Up Agent Vasquez’s Season 3 Return

Alongside The Lincoln Lawyer’s breakout character Andrea Freeman, Agent Vasquez is a new figure who could reasonably return in the series’ future. Like Mickey’s opposing prosecution, he’s apt to come into contact with officials from the FBI when defending clients connected to federal crimes or calling witnesses who may be subjects in federal investigations. There are countless ways for the FBI to be looped back into The Lincoln Lawyer season 3’s story, with Hemky Madera’s Agent Vasquez likely serving as the organization’s representative in the Netflix series.

Agent Vasquez’s potential return in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 is also connected to Alex Grant’s more ambiguous ending in season 2. After Mickey wins the case and learns that Alex Grant’s people may have killed Walter Kim, he’s warned that he’ll continue to be a target for Grant and his mob ties. This seemingly proves to be the case when Mickey is inexplicably almost run down by a car in the middle of the street, suggesting Alex Grant may get his revenge in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3. If so, Agent Vasquez is also likely to return and finally take down Alex Grant, potentially resolving his feud with Mickey Haller.
