Traits in Starfield are part of your character creation that gives you a special positive and negative origin that affects how you start the game, but these backgrounds are something you can choose to lose. If, for whatever reason, you dislike the trait you picked, each can be nullified in different ways as your journey unfolds. Those playing on PC even have the option to use console commands to give themselves a new trait entirely.
Out of the 17 total traits in Starfield, each has its requirements to be removed, making the process completely depend on your choice when creating your character. While some just ask you to get some medical work done, others are far more complex to get rid of. For example, the Adoring Fan trait gives you an early companion character NPC that can only be removed through drastic measures.

How To Change Your Trait In Starfield (PC)
While removing a trait normally makes it impossible for you to gain a new origin, there are console commands on the game’s PC version that allow you to assign your character a new background. Every trait has its code, similar to Legendary weapon ID’s in Starfield. To remove your current trait, use the “player.removeperk [perkID]” command and then use “player.addperk [perkID]” to obtain a new one.
