Welcome To Plathville‘s Moriah Plath dealt with a rare condition in her younger years that’s still shaken her self-confidence as she’s grown into adulthood. Though Moriah has spent the majority of her time on Welcome To Plathville season 5 rehashing her feud with her sister-in-law Olivia Plath, she’s also been opening up about her struggles in other areas of her life. Moriah, who is still reeling from the divorce of her parents Kim Plath and Barry Plath, has been doing her best to speak up about the things that have bothered her in the past. While it may not always be fruitful, Moriah is getting better at sharing her feelings.
As one of the most interesting reality TV series on the air, Welcome To Plathville season 5 has been a fascinating turn for the Plath family. While Kim and Barry deal with their lives post-divorce, trying to navigate their relationships with one another, the rest of the Plath family are all struggling with their own relationships. For Moriah, who is trying to balance relationships with both of her parents, revisiting some painful memories in the most recent episode of Welcome To Plathville was tough, but helped her to move forward.
Moriah Had Alopecia Areata
Moriah revealed in the most recent episode of Welcome To Plathville season 5 that she had a rare form of alopecia as a child, alopecia areata. According to the National Institute Of Health, alopecia areata occurs when “the immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair loss.” Hair loss can be minimal, but the outcome changes from person to person in terms of just how much hair is lost. While the hair loss can be difficult to navigate, for most people with alopecia areata, treatment can help hair to grow back fairly quickly. Moriah, who dealt with alopecia areata when she was young, definitely felt the effects of the disease.
She Felt Different For Years
Although Moriah was young when she was first diagnosed with alopecia, it was clear to her that she was different from her family and peers. She explained during the most recent episode of Welcome To Plathville season 5 that she felt different for years, losing confidence in herself entirely. Moriah shared that she, “would look myself in the mirror and I would say, ‘You are ugly. Nobody will ever love you,'” despite knowing that her family was there to support her. Having her self-confidence destroyed, it didn’t help that Moriah felt ostracized by her siblings and peers, but only made things tougher later on.
Moriah’s Hair Grew Back Years Later
Moriah’s alopecia thankfully reversed itself after years of dealing with tremendous hair loss. After being entirely bald, including her eyelashes and eyebrows falling out, Moriah’s hair grew back as she grew up. The damage, unfortunately, was already done when it came to Moriah’s overall confidence. As she’s grown older, Moriah has been able to see that dealing with something so traumatic at such a young age has helped her to mature. In her time on Welcome To Plathville, Moriah has proven she’s gotten her confidence back and hopes to continue building it even further.
Welcome To Plathville airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
