Following the tragic assassination of President Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy acquired an 18th-century residence known as the Baker House, in Georgetown, to be her personal home. However, due to the public’s overwhelming attention, especially from the paparazzi, she moved a year later. The Baker House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, had served as the residence for notable figures such as Georgetown Mayor Thomas Beall, Secretary of War Newton D. Baker, and former Miss America Yolande Fox. It now forms part of a massive 16,300-square-foot mansion, combining two other residences. Last year, it was put up for sale at $26.5 million but is currently priced at $19.5 million. On October 24th, it will be going up for a no-reserve auction.
This opulent compound comprises three homes, offering a total of 13 bedrooms, 13 full baths, and 5 half baths. The former Kennedy residence has been impeccably maintained, featuring original fireplaces, a grand entry hall, and a wood-paneled library. The renovations have transformed it into a showcase home, with top-notch design, fixtures, and finishes. Among its amenities, there’s an elegant dining room with a gold-leaf ceiling, a gym, an executive office, and a spacious modern kitchen. The second floor is dedicated to a generous primary suite with parquet flooring, a luxurious bath, and a private balcony overlooking the garden. Four additional bedrooms with en-suite facilities, as well as a lofted observation deck that offers stunning views of the property and the surrounding city, including the Washington Monument.
The connecting passageways and underground parking lot link the additional homes. One of them boasts a captivating Italianate entertaining room and three bedrooms, while the other features five bedrooms with oak herringbone flooring, a gourmet kitchen, and elegant moldings throughout. Each of the three homes embodies modern luxury while preserving its distinctive and historic charm.
