  • The show has been praised for its impressive production and talented cast, accurately portraying members of the British royal family and important political figures.
  • The final season will delicately handle the sensitive topic of Princess Diana’s death, focusing on the events leading up to it and the aftermath.

The final chapter begins in the newly released trailer for the sixth and final season of the hit Netflix drama, The Crown. Released courtesy of the streaming giant, the footage teases the first part of the last outing, which is due to land on 16 November 2023 and finds Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki in the roles of Charles and Diana. Inspired by real events, the fictional dramatization told in The Crown details the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign. The series has been a huge hit for Netflix since it began back in 2016, with praise being heaped on the balance of factual and fictional events and the performances of the cast, which has included Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II.

The sixth season is expected to explore the events that took place between 1997 and 2005, with the series depicting the premiership of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair, the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, the early relationship of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.

Over a year after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022, Netflix will put an end to the story of The Crown by showing some of the most relevant events of her legacy, and also one of the greatest tragedies in the world of international politics, the death of Lady Di, an event that will play a central role in the final season of the series.

What to Expect From the Final Season of the Crown

Netflix

The sixth season of The Crown will pick up right where the fifth installment left off, focusing on the final days of Princess Diana of Wales’ life and her scandalous relationship with Dodi Fayed, before her tragic accident. The team behind the show has already anticipated The Crown will only show the before and after of the event, not including the accident, to treat the matter with respect:

“The show might be big and noisy, but we’re not. We’re thoughtful people and we’re sensitive people. There were very careful, long conversations about how we were going to do it. The audience will judge it in the end, but I think it’s been delicately, thoughtfully recreated. Elizabeth Debicki is an extraordinary actress, and she was so thoughtful and considerate. She loved Diana. There’s a huge amount of respect from us all, I hope that’s evident.”

This means that the first episodes of the new season will focus on Diana, while the last ones will reach closer moments in time, although not necessarily contemporary. The second part of the final season of The Crown will, for example, delve into the romance between Kate Middleton and Prince William, although it will not show the family they formed as the recent documentary William & Kate: Raising a Royal Family does. Those in charge of playing young Megan and Harry will be newcomers Meg Bellany and Ed McVey.

Thus, The Crown’s reign on Netflix will soon be coming to an end. The political drama that traces the life of Queen Elizabeth II will premiere its sixth and final season in two parts, the first one on November 16 and the second one on December 14. Released in 2016, the series created by Peter Morgan has become one of the most ambitious and acclaimed projects on the streaming platform, showing an incredible display of production and amazing casting, showing young and adult versions of the most important members of the British royal family, as well as relevant figures from the political history of the last century and the current one.

Alongside the trailer, Netflix recently released a series of images that offer another look at what will be the final season of The Crown, which will star Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana alongside Dominic West as Prince Charles, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Prince Margaret, Salim Daw as Mohamed Al-Fayed, Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Al-Fayed, Rufus Kampa as Prince William and Fflyn Edwards as Prince Harry:
