Why is a public defender’s union siding with terrorists?
As was the case with a host of far-left groups, the Bronx Defenders United Auto Workers Local 2325 statement on Israel’s response to Hamas’ horrific Oct. 7 atrocities accused Israel of genocide and ethnic cleansing — including the claim its “apartheid” laws are the “root cause” of the “violence unfolding in Palestine.”
And: “We condemn any attempts to create false equivalencies between the oppressed and the oppressor.”
It seems the legal-aid lawyers can’t recognize war crimes when they see them.
This raises the question: Can these lawyers — whose employer has gotten more than $300 million in city and state funding over the past decade — recognize any crimes at all?
The issue here isn’t defunding the Bronx Defenders because of their personal views; it’s whether any court should trust them.
Back in 2021, a Bronx Defenders exec’s email assailing Israel and cops forced an apology and a $170,000 settlement for alleged discrimination against a Jewish staffer that included anti-bias and sensitivity training, which plainly didn’t take.
Sure seems like the taxpayers can find a better Bronx legal aid group to fund.
