2024 GOP primary: Haley gains on Trump in New Hampshire poll, but the former president still has a 15-point edge

Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley is generating buzz after picking up support in a new poll focused on the key state of New Hampshire, although former President Donald Trump still has a sizable edge.

Haley, a former South Carolina governor who also served as ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, has scored 29% support in a CBS News/YouGov poll released Sunday, versus Trump’s tally of 44%.

The survey’s findings have sparked talk about how Haley might move even closer to Trump’s level of support if other GOP candidates were to drop out of the race. “Gut check time for Christie,” said Liam Donovan, a former GOP operative who is now a principal at law and lobbying firm Bracewell, in a social-media post. Donovan was referring to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who drew 10% support in the poll.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis got 11% in the poll, followed by entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy at 5% and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson at 1%.

New Hampshire’s Republican presidential primary is scheduled for Jan. 23, just eight days after Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses.
