Lauren Lerner allows us a look inside her Scottsdale home, which she shares with her son, Zach, and two adorable dogs, Zoe and Bernie.

Lauren, please tell us a bit about yourself.
I am the principal designer and founder of Living with Lolo, an interior design firm based in Scottsdale, AZ, since 2017. Fueled by my love for clean lines, mixed metals, colors, and timeless pieces, I thrive on bringing a client’s home to life from the very beginning.

Did you have an influence in your youth that shaped your career path?
I believe I was born to be an entrepreneur. Both my dad and my grandpa were entrepreneurs. I fondly remember the thrill of getting to “work” alongside them in the family business as a child, and always knew that my path would somehow lead to running a business of my own.

Please tell us more about your home.
My home is located in Scottsdale, AZ, and is 6,000 sq/ft. It serves as my personal residence, and we have a separate structure on site that serves as our team’s office. I knew I wanted a space that was both chic and livable. It was also important that this modern allowed me to take full advantage of an indoor/outdoor living concept which is enjoyable many months of the year in Arizona. I can confidently say that my home is a wonderful reflection of all the things that I feel design should accomplish – a space that you feel connected to, comfortable in, and proud of.

You are an interior designer. Did you opt to do your home’s interior design?
Because I am constantly seeing new products and innovations, it was hard to make a decision and stick to it for my own home! Especially because I designed my house during COVID-19 and the delays were long, it meant that I had a lot of time to rethink my decisions. Ultimately, I landed on pieces and finishes that I loved, and the result is a sophisticated and modern space that has timeless appeal.

How would you best describe your design style?
I have a true passion for crafting personalized spaces that strike the perfect balance between familiarity and inspiration, enabling our clients to live their most extraordinary lives. My design approach seamlessly blends modern, contemporary, and eclectic styles, resulting in captivating and timeless environments.

Where / what / who inspires your design style?
My design aesthetic draws inspiration from individual pieces I love from a broad range of artisans and is strongly fueled by the beauty of nature discovered both locally and through travel. I don’t like to box my preferences into one exact style, because I feel an eclectic gathering of inspiration creates a more personalized design without limitations.

How do you keep things fresh and new in terms of decorating?
I make it a point to attend the market at least once a year to stay updated with the latest trends. Additionally, I find endless inspiration on Instagram, where I immerse myself in captivating visuals and innovative ideas.

Is there a specific color you are drawn to in interior design?
I incorporate a variety of neutral textures in our designs, complemented by vibrant pops of color. Many of our clients specifically request shades of blue and green, which I gladly include. However, if I had to pick a personal favorite, purple would take the top spot.

Do you believe in repurposing?
I advocate for repurposing only when you truly adore an item. I am not fond of holding onto things simply for the sake of having them. If something resides in your home, it ought to evoke a sense of significance and love for you.

Do you have any special heirloom pieces?
No, I do not.

Which part of your home is your favorite?
I enjoy the seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living in my home, allowing me to relish the best of both worlds effortlessly.

In which part of your home do you spend the most time?
This is a tough one because I am a happy homebody who loves so many areas in my home! I spend the majority of my time in the kitchen crafting yummy recipes, in the living room hanging out with family and friends, and in the backyard lounging by the pool or enjoying a cocktail while admiring a stunning AZ sunset.

You share your home with your son and two adorable dogs, Zoe & Bernie. As an expert in your field, were/are you open to design suggestions from them, and did you incorporate any special places for your marketing managers?
Let’s be honest, my dogs run the house! I have designed everything in my home with my dogs and my kiddo in mind, ensuring easy clean-up and durability. There are no restrictions or limitations for any of them on furniture etc.

Did your son navigate his design style, interpreted by you?
Zach did have design input in his room. He is a big fan of abstract art and selected the piece over his desk. I love that he felt a personal connection to it, and it served as a great inspiration for the remaining aesthetic of the room. He also is drawn to brighter colors, so he chose a deep teal as the primary hue in the space.

I enjoy exploring social media platforms to uncover emerging designers and witness their innovative ideas firsthand.
