As the old DCEU bows out with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s woeful box office projections, news of the new DCU continues to filter through in small spoonfuls. Following a number of new casting reveals earlier this month, Superman: Legacy now has an official logline and filming window.
Thanks to details shared by Production List, we now know that James Gunn‘s first DCU movie will kick off filming in March. While the site suggests that this will be the beginning of the month, Collider confirmed through their own sources that it will be closer to mid-month before Gunn gets behind the camera.
In addition to this, the movie’s official logline shares a very high level view of what the storyline of the film will focus on. It reads:
Superman, a cub reporter in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.
Who Has Recently Joined the Cast of Superman: Legacy?
The cast of Superman: Legacy continues to grow. Now that the actors’ strike is finally over, the first official movie of the new DCU adds Skyler Gisondo and Sara Sampaio as Jimmy Olsen and Eve Teschmacher.
Back in June, it was confirmed that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan had been chosen by James Gunn to play Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the film. Later, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi and Anthony Carrigan joined as Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific and Metamorpho. And now that the conflict between the big studios and SAG-AFTRA has been resolved, stars continue to be added to the cast. Maria Gabriela de Faria and Nicholas Hoult were recently announced as The Engineer and Lex Luthor, and now two more characters within the Man of Steel’s mythology find their new faces.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Skyler Gisondo will become the legendary Jimmy Olsen, while Deadline reports that Portuguese model Sara Sampaio will play Eve Teschmacher. Gisondo made his debut in 2003 in the series Miss Match, and made the jump to the big screen in 2006 with Jam and with a voice role in Air Buddies. He has participated in projects like 2007’s Halloween, Four Christmases, The Amazing Spider-Man, Booksmart, Licorice Pizza, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, and The Righteous Gemstones. Sampaio, for her part, has only starred in four movies, including the 2021 thriller Crisis, and also participated in an episode of Billions.
James Gunn Debunks Controversial Report About Superman: Legacy’s Plot
Once again, James Gunn debunks reports about the alleged plot of Superman: Legacy.
Who Are Jimmy Olsen and Eve Teschmacher?
Created by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster and Bob Maxwell, Olsen first appeared in Action Comics #6 in 1938. Jimmy is a photojournalist who works at The Daily Planet alongside Lois Lane and Clark Kent, and maintains a close friendship with both of them.
The character has appeared in several adaptations of Superman throughout history, including Adventures of Superman, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Smallville, Supergirl, Superman: The Animated Series, in the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve and the one starring Brandon Routh, and even in the Snyderverse, although he only appeared in a brief cameo in Batman v Superman.
Jimmy’s participation in the film is not a surprise, since it is assumed that much of the plot takes place in the hallways of The Daily Planet, and that Lois and Clark’s relationship plays a very important role in the story. However, Teschmacher’s participation may be a little more surprising, especially since this is a character who was introduced outside the comic book pages.
Created by Richard Donner and Mario Puzo, Teschmacher first appeared in 1978’s Superman, played by Valerie Perrine, as Lex Luthor’s assistant. After that first appearance, the character was part of several comic book titles, as well as in other Superman adaptations such as Smallville and Supergirl. In Superman Returns, where Kevin Spacey plays Lex Luthor, a character very similar to Teschmacher appears, only with the name Kitty Kowalski, played by Parker Posey.
