Bafana Bafana became the latest team to upset the odds at this year’s AFCON tournament, dumping out favourites Morocco. Evidence Makgopa opened the scoring, slotting under goalkeeper Bono. Achraf Hakimi missed a golden chance to equalise, smashing a late penalty against the bar, before SA midfielder Teboho Mokoena scored a stunning free kick to make the game safe.Â
Earlier in the day, Mali also marched through to the quarters, edging out neighbours Burkina Faso 2-1. The Eagles opened the scoring when Bayern Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba scored an own goal. Mali made it 2 when Lassine Sinayoko slotted through the goalkeepers legs… a Bertrand Traore penalty wasn’t enough though as the stallions crashed out.
